About the role:

As part of this team, the Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for design, solutioning, and implementation of an SDN-based Enterprise Network which spans over 100 global locations and is integral to the company's success. You will provide reactive support for escalated networking issues and proactive project support to enable our SD-WAN based Enterprise Connectivity Transformation initiatives.


Our Senior Network Design Engineer’s primary focus is to collaborate with Network Architects on high level architectural network designs and synthesize them into deployable low-level designs for sub-domains related to Network technologies including both emerging and traditional technologies. They are required to prove out and test network designs, solutions, and tools through Proof-of-Concept activities, and ensure the delivery of these deployments is transitioned to operational networking teams effectively and consistently with accompanying artifacts including design and standard operating procedure documentation to ensure operational continuity as the deployments go to production.


Key Requirements:

Strategy and Architecture

  • Use appropriate tools to develop network designs, producing detailed component specifications and low-level designs. Ensure technical strategies, policies, and security standards are applied correctly.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of emerging and traditional network technologies, providing expert advice and supervising internal and specialist consultancy activities.
  • Manage the design, procurement, installation, upgrade, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of network infrastructure, ensuring operational problems are resolved and procedures are current.
  • Provide expertise and support on networking methods and tools.


Development and Implementation

  • Design and deploy innovative network infrastructures and tools, considering performance, security, and existing systems.
  • Translate high-level designs into detailed low-level designs and produce SOP documentation.
  • Lead first-of-a-kind installation projects, ensuring effective communication and monitoring installation effectiveness.
  • Design and execute test cases, analyze results, and report issues and risks.
  • Participate in governance processes like the Engineering Review Council (ERC).
  • Use release and deployment tools and techniques, documenting technical activities and providing early user support.
  • Research and develop new network services and standards for SD-WAN, WAN, ISP, and other transports.
  • Develop network transport services to support emerging application requirements (e.g., IP Video, cloud connectivity, unified communications).
  • Research and develop solutions integrating security, EUC, and network technologies.
  • Develop transformation plans, business cases, and carrier contract changes for new data transport technology adoption.
  • Synthesize technical, service management, and functional requirements.
  • Integrate M&A infrastructure into centralized network tools and contracts.
  • Develop and manage network service engineering plans and long-range strategies for network equipment and tools.
  • Manage network infrastructure documentation and stay updated on applicable technologies.
  • Drive conversion to WK Global Standard services using DevOps and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, GitHub Enterprise).


Delivery and Operation

  • Ensure adherence to network ITIL processes (e.g., Change, Request, Problem).
  • Monitor network component capacity and initiate actions to resolve shortfalls.
  • Provide technical expertise for the correct application of operational procedures.
  • Use network management tools to determine network load and performance.
  • Utilize system administration tools to manage, monitor, and maintain network systems.
  • Plan and implement maintenance and installation work for first-of-a-kind deployments.
  • Implement agreed network changes and maintenance routines.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems, ensuring they are managed per standards.
  • Provide reports and proposals for improvement to specialists, users, and managers.
  • Develop RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and manage vendor response processes.
  • Create business cases for new networks, services, and upgrades.
  • Drive resources to improve network service availability and performance.
  • Monitor outsourcing relationships to ensure they meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Coordinate with sourcing and legal teams to develop/modify service contracts.
  • Ensure global standards are met and global projects are consistently implemented.
  • Interface with domain experts and project managers to deliver cross-domain solutions.


Education:

  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Preferred Domain Expertise Certificates: CCIE/CCNP, CWNA/CWNE/CWNP, AWS Advanced Networking, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Network Engineer, and/or other relevant Networking related certifications.


Experience:

  • 10 or more years in a technical network position
  • 10 or more years as a Network Engineer
  • 5 or more years of experience in a large, global environment
  • Experience working in a DevOps or DevSecOps oriented IT environment highly desirable

  • Software Defined Networking (SDN)

  • Automated, virtualized, software defined (Infrastructure as Code), devops implementation experience is highly desirable

  • Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) and Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN)
  • WAN Optimization
  • Firewalls
  • Load Balancers
  • SIP
  • Switching technologies
  • Network Management tools such as SolarWinds, CloudFlare, InfoBlox, Zabbix, ThousandEyes, PRTG, etc.
  • Experience provisioning and managing networks with automation tools including Ansible and/or Terraform
  • Experience automating devices like zScaler, Fortinet, Arista, Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Ciena, F5, etc.
  • Experience on SD-WAN products such as Cisco, VeloCloud, Viptella, etc.
  • Experience with Network Policy & Network Access control tools such Cisco ISE
  • Knowledge of Compliance and Data Privacy
