Key Responsibilities

Design and optimize multi-level compiler architecture (logical circuits → native gates → pulse/movement instructions)

Develop hardware cost models (fidelity, timing, atom-loss budgets) to drive compiler optimizations

Define and maintain ISA at all abstraction levels, ensuring compatibility with OpenQASM 3 and QIR standards

Own compiler-control system interfaces, including timing guarantees and hardware constraints

Collaborate with physicists to expose hardware operations and version ISA for evolving hardware/software

Build tooling for compiler visibility (IR dumps, pass diffing, atom position visualizations, job replays)

Develop verifiers, property-based tests, and equivalence checks for compiler trustworthiness

Create resource estimation tools for algorithm/QEC teams to accelerate circuit-to-hardware mapping

Document architecture decisions, review designs, and represent compilation in hardware co-design discussions

Engage in open-source and standards communities where relevant

Technical Skills Required

Compiler Design & Intermediate Representations (IR) Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) MLIR or xDSL (or comparable SSA-based infrastructures)
