Job Description

Propulsion Engineer – Turbine Systems Aerodynamics & Design

Our client is an innovative aerospace company developing next-generation propulsion technology for high-performance flight. Working at the forefront of clean-sheet gas turbine development, they're building advanced propulsion systems in a fast-paced startup environment where engineers have broad technical ownership and direct impact on product development.

We're seeking a Propulsion Engineer with expertise in turbine aerodynamics and turbomachinery design to play a key role in developing the hot section of an advanced gas turbine engine. You'll work across the full product lifecycle, from early aerodynamic design and performance modelling through testing, validation, and manufacturing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the aerodynamic design and performance development of high-pressure and low-pressure turbine systems.
  • Design turbine airfoils and optimise flowpaths using CFD and aerodynamic analysis tools.
  • Develop 1D meanline models, turbine blading, and performance maps to support engine development.
  • Support rig testing, engine testing, hardware assessments, and performance validation activities.
  • Analyse test data and recommend engineering improvements based on results.
  • Develop engineering toolchains, automation, and multidisciplinary design workflows.
  • Collaborate with structures, mechanical design, systems engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver integrated propulsion solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience designing axial turbomachinery or gas turbine turbine systems.
  • Strong understanding of turbine aerodynamics, blade design, and CFD analysis.
  • Experience using multiple levels of aerodynamic design tools, including meanline modelling, 2D analysis, and 3D CFD.
  • Familiarity with engine cycle modelling tools such as NPSS, PyCycle, or similar.
  • Proficiency with CAD to support engine module integration.
  • Programming or automation experience using Python or similar languages.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to Have

  • Ownership of turbine modules or turbomachinery components throughout product development.
  • Experience with turbine life assessment, thermal loading, structural durability, or creep analysis.
  • Knowledge of secondary air systems within gas turbine engines.
  • Experience developing engineering tools, automation, or multidisciplinary design methodologies.
  • Engine or rig testing experience, including data reduction and performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with turbomachinery software such as AxSTREAM, ADS, or similar.
  • Background within aerospace propulsion, industrial gas turbines, power generation, or other high-performance rotating machinery.

Why Join?

  • Help develop next-generation propulsion technology within a rapidly growing engineering organisation.
  • Work on clean-sheet engine development with significant technical ownership and visibility.
  • Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams solving challenging real-world engineering problems.
  • Join a high-performance startup culture that values innovation, technical excellence, and rapid execution over bureaucracy.
  • Competitive compensation, equity, comprehensive benefits, relocation assistance, and flexible PTO.
  • Equity/ Stock options
