Job Description

Remote Network Monitoring Engineer - £75K, 6-month FTC | £70,000 - £75,000

We're working with a technology-led connectivity business delivering a major national dark fibre rollout on this exciting opportunity.

This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role where you will take complete ownership of the network observability strategy for a massive infrastructure programme. You will bridge the gap between deployment and operations by building sophisticated streaming telemetry pipelines using VictoriaMetrics and Nagios to ensure 100% network visibility from day one.

The Role

  • Design and deploy end-to-end monitoring solutions across newly delivered dark fibre infrastructure and OLTs.
  • Build and scale streaming telemetry pipelines (gNMI, gRPC) to provide real-time, low-latency network visibility.
  • Configure, optimize, and tune VictoriaMetrics for high-performance data ingestion and retention.
  • Develop advanced Grafana dashboards to provide actionable operational insights for NOC and engineering teams.
  • Establish baseline performance metrics and define SLA-led alert thresholds across Layer 1-3 network equipment.

What You'll Need

  • Proven senior-level experience in network monitoring or engineering within an ISP or large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • Deep technical expertise with VictoriaMetrics in a production environment is essential.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Nagios, including custom plugins, configuration, and alerting workflows.
  • Proficiency with streaming telemetry tools and protocols such as gNMI, gRPC, Telegraf, or gNMIc.
  • Solid networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and optical network technologies.

What's On Offer

  • Competitive pro-rata salary of up to £75,000 for a 6-month fixed-term contract.
  • 100% remote working flexibility while supporting a major UK infrastructure project.
  • The opportunity to work with a modern observability tech stack including AI/ML-driven anomaly detection.
  • High-visibility role where you can drive technical standards and continuous improvement across a growing network.
