Linux Systems Engineer in UNITED KINGDOM

Visa sponsorship 10 months ago

This position is for a fantastic medium-sized multi-strategy Hedge Fund with $10b AUM. It is their first Linux DevOps hire (5-10 years experience) and reports to the Head of Infrastructure. This represents a tremendous opportunity to significantly impact the business and develop a DevOps function from scratch. This hire and future team are born out of business needs and have huge growth potential for the successful candidate.

This position is not open to candidates who require visa sponsorship or relocation.

In summary, we are looking for an experienced and talented Linux Engineer with solid experience in cloud technologies (running Linux on AWS). We seek someone highly proficient in managing, operating, administering, troubleshooting, permissioning, and configuring Linux platforms. Someone with a strong focus on automation and IaC.

This is not a support role and does not have shifts, but we are looking for an escalation point for serious, complex problems! It requires someone with a cool head, experience, and communication skills to work directly with business stakeholders under pressure on mission-critical business systems. You will also need the maturity to collaborate and coordinate with other internal technical teams (software engineering, core infrastructure etc).

The culture is fast-paced and involves change and evolution. Its flat, bottom-up structure is probably unsuitable for someone requiring formal structure and hierarchy.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years experience, obtained at a FinTech, Hedge Fund, Prop Trading, Market Maker, or Investment Bank.
  • Depth of skills and expertise in Linux engineering. Demonstrable record of solving complex problems.
  • Good automating and DevOps experience using tools such as Chef, Terraform, Puppet and Ansible
  • Good Cloud Computing experience: AWS is currently the central platform.
  • Career-minded and permanent mindset with excellent job tenure (maximum 3-4 jobs). Contractors/consultants don't excite us.
  • Good scripting/programming skills are highly desirable. This is not a software engineering position, though.
  • Computer Science or Engineering academics from a highly rated university.
