The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose

Corning, Inc. is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking and technically adept Director of Data & Analytics Platform Engineering to lead the development and evolution of enterprise-scale data and analytics platforms. This role is central to enabling scalable, secure, and high-performance environments that support advanced analytics, AI/ML, reporting and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering mindset, leadership experience, and a passion for building platforms that empower innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and drive the strategic roadmap for enterprise data, reporting and analytics platforms.
  • Lead architectural decisions to ensure platforms are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with business needs.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, data governance, and security teams to ensure compliance and integration with enterprise standards.

Engineering Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing team including developing expertise in platform engineers, cloud architects, and DevOps professionals.
  • Champion engineering best practices, automation, and continuous integration/ deployment (CI/CD).
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for platform performance, availability, and user satisfaction.

Platform Enablement & Operations

  • Oversee the development and operation of data platforms supporting reporting, analytics, data science, and AI/ML workloads.
  • Ensure platform reliability, cost efficiency, and operational excellence through proactive monitoring and optimization.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to enable self-service capabilities and accelerate time-to-insight.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Evangelize the strategic use of the data analytics platform, ensuring it is closely tied to Corning’s strategic goals.
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to understand platform needs and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Act as a bridge between platform engineering and enterprise IT, ensuring alignment and support.
  • Lead vendor evaluations and manage relationships with platform technology providers.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage platform budgets, resource planning, and cost optimization strategies.
  • Ensure maturation of FinOps capabilities across the company for cost-effective scaling of data and AI/ML capabilities.
  • Track platform usage and ROI, and support business case development for new investments.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or enterprise data systems.
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and delivering large-scale platform solutions.
  • Expertise with Databricks and AWS services in a production environment; experience with other platforms preferred.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures (e.g., lakehouse, data mesh and fabrics), DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with platform security, data risk management, compliance, and governance in enterprise settings.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution discipline.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including executive level.
  • Passion for enabling innovation through scalable, modern platforms.
  • Experience in manufacturing, life sciences, or regulated industries is a plus.
  • Proven change management and ability drive adoption of new technologies.

This position supports immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $192,836.00 - $265,150.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
