Embedded Linux Engineer in the
United States.
In this role, you will develop and maintain embedded Linux systems for IoT devices, automating software build, deployment, and provisioning processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable device operation, including over-the-air updates and communications configuration. Your work will directly influence product performance, deployment efficiency, and system security. This position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technologies, including Yocto-based Linux systems, kernel development, and IoT infrastructure automation. You will have a significant impact on the development and deployment of innovative energy and technology solutions across a distributed network of devices. The role is fully remote, offering flexibility while enabling collaboration with teams nationwide.
Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain Yocto-based embedded Linux OS projects
- Automate the infrastructure for flashing, provisioning, and deploying IoT devices in manufacturing and field environments
- Configure and manage secure Linux-based systems and over-the-air (OTA) update platforms
- Write, debug, and maintain embedded Linux applications using C, C++, Python, and Bash scripting
- Adjust Linux kernel and drivers as needed to support IoT functionality
- Collaborate with hardware, algorithms, and product teams to align development with strategic objectives
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize performance of deployed systems and devices
- Contribute to technical documentation for deployment, provisioning, and security processes
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in embedded Linux engineering, including 5+ years with Yocto, BSPs, kernel, and driver development
- Hands-on experience configuring and deploying IoT systems with secure communications and OTA updates
- Proficiency in C, C++, Python, Bash, and other systems programming languages
- Strong understanding of software build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools
- Knowledge of security protocols for IoT devices and systems
- Familiarity with Git, version control, and Agile methodologies
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, fully remote environment
Enhanced Qualifications (preferred):
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Experience with Linux kernel development and kernel module integration
- Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible and containerization/orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with Mender or similar OTA update management systems
- Knowledge of hardware-level IoT integration and provisioning
