Key Responsibilities

Perform complex survival neurosurgery (stereotaxic viral injections, cranial-window/GRIN-lens/prism implantation) in mice for chronic imaging and optogenetic experiments

Execute high-quality longitudinal two-photon imaging of neural circuits over weeks to months, ensuring reproducibility and stability

Design and implement optogenetic experiments to interrogate and manipulate neural circuits while optimizing experimental workflows and quality control

Oversee animal colony management, ensuring high standards of animal welfare and experimental consistency

Develop, validate, and troubleshoot new surgical, imaging, and optogenetic methods to improve experimental success rates

Collaborate with engineers to refine microscopes, behavioral apparatus, and other experimental systems for Meridial’s platform

Work with computational researchers to integrate experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis pipelines for open-sharing standards

Train and mentor junior scientists in surgical, imaging, and experimental techniques while maintaining rigorous documentation

Contribute to scientific interpretation across Meridial’s research programs and communicate findings across interdisciplinary teams

Meridial is a Focused Research Organisation (FRO) with a mission to bring connectomics into the living brain. We are building a platform for longitudinal, synapse-resolution mapping of functional neural circuitry in preclinical models. Our aim is to deploy this platform for translational projects and improve drug development outcomes for disorders of the central nervous system.Meridial is a new not-for-profit FRO in the Convergent Research Ecosystem and funded by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency ( ARIA ).Meridial is seeking a to play a central role in establishing and running our in vivo experiments.
