Director, Nuclear Project Quality Assurance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Nuclear Project Quality Assurance based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced nuclear quality assurance leader to establish and scale the quality foundation for next-generation energy projects.

This role will own the development and execution of a comprehensive QA strategy across the full project lifecycle, from early development through future operations.

You will define quality standards, oversee supplier qualification, and ensure compliance with critical nuclear regulations and industry requirements.

Accountabilities

The Director, Nuclear Project Quality Assurance will serve as the senior owner of nuclear project quality assurance strategy, ensuring effective implementation of quality programs, supplier oversight, regulatory readiness, and continuous improvement throughout project development and execution.

• Develop, implement, and maintain the nuclear project quality assurance strategy, including the revision and execution of the Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD).
• Establish and manage supplier qualification programs, including Approved Supplier Lists, supplier evaluations, audits, requalifications, and performance monitoring.
• Qualify and oversee suppliers, engineering firms, contractors, and technical partners working under nuclear quality requirements such as 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee supplier audits, surveillances, assessments, corrective action reviews, and verification activities.
• Ensure quality assurance requirements are effectively integrated into procurement documents, contracts, supplier agreements, and sub-tier supplier controls.
• Support licensing and engineering activities by ensuring technical analyses, calculations, environmental data, records, and deliverables meet applicable quality standards.
• Partner with cross-functional teams including licensing, engineering, procurement, environmental, legal, and project management groups to maintain strong QA alignment.
• Develop procedures and governance frameworks covering supplier qualification, document control, records management, software quality assurance, corrective actions, and nonconformance management.
• Lead quality program readiness activities supporting future regulatory reviews, inspections, licensing submissions, construction activities, and operational preparation.
• Provide executive-level guidance on quality risks, supplier performance, audit findings, corrective actions, and overall project readiness.
• Promote a strong nuclear safety culture while maintaining independent oversight and the authority to escalate quality concerns when necessary.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings extensive nuclear quality assurance expertise, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to build effective programs within a growing organization.

• 10+ years of progressive experience leading, implementing, or overseeing nuclear quality assurance programs under 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1 requirements.
• Current or previous qualification as an NQA-1 Lead Auditor, or the ability to quickly regain qualification.
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, military experience, and relevant professional background.
• Hands-on experience qualifying and managing suppliers performing safety-related or quality-affecting nuclear work.
• Strong knowledge of NRC quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR Part 21, 10 CFR 50.55(e), ASME NQA-1, and NRC Regulatory Guide 1.28.
• Experience auditing or overseeing architect-engineers, reactor vendors, EPC contractors, manufacturers, laboratories, or technical service providers.
• Proven ability to develop and implement QA procedures covering design control, procurement, supplier qualification, records management, software QA, and corrective actions.
• Experience supporting nuclear licensing activities, including construction permits, combined licenses, design certifications, or operating licenses, is highly valuable.
• Familiarity with advanced reactor projects, first-of-a-kind deployments, or new nuclear project development environments is preferred.
• Experience with NIAC, NUPIC, electronic quality management systems, and shared supplier assessments is a plus.
• Strong judgment and ability to apply risk-informed quality approaches while maintaining regulatory compliance.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams, communicate effectively with senior leaders, and operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to build relationships across technical teams, suppliers, contractors, and executive stakeholders.
