This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer - Automation based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to shape scalable cloud infrastructure through automation, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps best practices.
You will design and maintain advanced Terraform solutions that support complex cloud and hybrid environments.
The position focuses on building reusable infrastructure components, improving delivery pipelines, and strengthening operational reliability.

Accountabilities
The Infrastructure Engineer - Automation will be responsible for developing reliable infrastructure automation frameworks, improving cloud delivery processes, and enabling engineering teams through scalable solutions. Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain modular Terraform infrastructure across cloud accounts, environments, and platforms.
- Create reusable Terraform modules with clear interfaces, documentation, testing practices, and version management.
- Develop and manage infrastructure automation pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Terraform Cloud, Atlantis, or Spacelift.
- Implement policy-as-code practices to improve security, compliance, and infrastructure governance using solutions such as Sentinel, OPA, Conftest, or Checkov.
- Manage Terraform state strategies, including backend configuration, state locking, workspace organization, and recovery processes.
- Establish multi-account, multi-region, and multi-cloud provisioning standards with consistent tagging, naming, and isolation practices.
- Build infrastructure testing processes, including automated validation, integration testing, and policy checks.
- Partner with security, networking, and platform teams to integrate best practices into infrastructure automation workflows.
- Develop reusable approaches for secrets management, identity federation, and access control.
- Lead migration efforts from manually managed infrastructure to automated infrastructure-as-code environments.
- Support cost optimization initiatives, resource lifecycle management, and infrastructure governance.
- Mentor engineering teams on Terraform standards, automation practices, code reviews, and infrastructure design principles.
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, and onboarding materials.
- Evaluate emerging infrastructure automation technologies and recommend improvements where valuable.

The ideal candidate brings strong cloud infrastructure experience, deep Terraform expertise, and a software engineering mindset applied to automation and platform engineering. Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps engineering, or related roles with significant Terraform experience.
- Proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade Terraform solutions at scale.
- Strong expertise creating reusable Terraform modules with clean interfaces and versioning practices.
- Hands-on experience managing Terraform state, backends, and large-scale workspace structures.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure code and implementing automated governance controls.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity management, security concepts, and access controls.
- Strong knowledge of Git workflows, including branching strategies, code reviews, and release processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and root-cause investigation skills.
- Experience with multi-cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.
- Familiarity with tools such as Terragrunt, Atlantis, Spacelift, env0, or similar infrastructure automation platforms is a plus.
- Experience with policy-as-code solutions, public Terraform contributions, or FinOps practices is advantageous.
- Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate across teams, and mentor other engineers.
