Salary: JPY 8,000,000โ€“15,000,000 per year (depending on experience)

Build the Infrastructure Behind the World's Next Generation of Quantum Computers

A well-funded quantum computing startup in Japan is looking for an experienced DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer to build the operational foundation for a next-generation neutral-atom quantum computer.

Founded by researchers from one of Japan's leading universities, the company has secured approximately JPY 700 million in funding and is backed by leading international investors and major government R&D programs.

This is a unique opportunity to build the reliability, deployment, and operational infrastructure that will power a real quantum computer.

Unlike traditional DevOps roles, you'll work directly alongside quantum physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers to help transform cutting-edge research into a reliable production system.

About the Role

As the company transitions from experimental research to building a production-ready quantum computer, reliability becomes mission-critical.

This is a 0โ†’1 Site Reliability Engineering role. You'll establish the DevOps foundation from scratch, creating deployment pipelines, monitoring systems, testing infrastructure, and operational processes that enable continuous operation of quantum hardware.

You'll take ownership of the entire operational lifecycle, allowing research and engineering teams to focus on developing the next generation of quantum technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build CI/CD pipelines and release automation
  • Develop deployment, rollback, and configuration management systems
  • Build monitoring, observability, logging, and alerting platforms
  • Develop Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and validation frameworks
  • Improve system reliability through incident analysis and root cause investigation
  • Automate regression testing and software validation
  • Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, and physicists to improve system stability
  • Support the transition toward continuous, production-level operation of quantum computing systems

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Proven experience building and operating production infrastructure
  • Strong experience with:
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Build & release automation
  • Monitoring and observability
  • Linux systems
  • Python or similar scripting languages
  • Business-level English
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in fast-changing startup environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Prometheus, Grafana, and modern observability platforms
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
  • Networking fundamentals
  • High-availability or mission-critical production systems
  • Scientific computing, robotics, semiconductor, or laboratory environments
  • Interest in quantum computing or advanced physics

Why Join?

  • Help build the operational foundation for a fault-tolerant quantum computer
  • Work directly with world-class physicists and engineers
  • Own a true 0โ†’1 DevOps platform from the ground up
  • Solve unique engineering challenges rarely found in conventional software companies
  • Join an internationally funded deep-tech startup during its founding stage
  • Contribute to technology that has the potential to transform computing

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary: JPY 8Mโ€“15M
  • Full-time employment
  • Discretionary work system for R&D professionals
  • Standard working hours: 9:00โ€“18:00
  • Weekends and Japanese national holidays off
  • Summer and year-end holidays
  • Paid annual leave
  • Comprehensive social insurance
  • Annual health check-up
  • Smoke-free workplace
