Senior Systems Engineer (Remote)

Location: Fully Remote

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: Senior Director of Systems Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to serve as the primary owner of our enterprise SaaS application portfolio while acting as a secondary administrator for our Microsoft 365 environment.

This role is ideal for a systems generalist with strong expertise in SaaS administration, identity and access management, Microsoft 365, automation, and enterprise systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of business-critical SaaS applications, ensuring secure integrations, operational excellence, and a seamless user experience across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

SaaS Portfolio Management

  • Own and manage the lifecycle of enterprise SaaS applications, including evaluation, onboarding, configuration, administration, support, and retirement.
  • Serve as the primary IT point of contact for new business application requests.
  • Manage platforms such as Slack, Zoom, Jira, Confluence, FreshService, DocuSign, Dropbox, and other departmental tools.
  • Maintain SaaS inventory, licensing, renewals, ownership records, and integration status.
  • Drive application consolidation and decommissioning initiatives to reduce tool sprawl.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to evaluate and govern new technology adoption.

Identity & Access Management

  • Integrate SaaS applications with Microsoft Entra ID using SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM.
  • Implement and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) and automated user provisioning/deprovisioning.
  • Manage application access controls, group assignments, and role mappings.
  • Conduct regular audits of identity integrations and remediation activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve identity-related issues across the application portfolio.

Microsoft 365 Administration

  • Serve as a backup administrator for the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Support and administer Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune, Defender, and Purview.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365 projects, operational support, and incident resolution.

Automation & Systems Operations

  • Develop and maintain automations using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API, and low-code/iPaaS platforms.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance and availability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.

Networking & Infrastructure Support

  • Support enterprise networking environments, including routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving cloud, networking, identity, and integrated systems.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Support security initiatives and compliance programs, including ISO 27001 and SOC 2 controls.
  • Implement governance, access controls, and security best practices across enterprise applications.
  • Partner with Information Security teams on audits, remediation efforts, and risk reduction initiatives.

Advanced Support & Leadership

  • Act as a Tier 3 escalation resource for complex technical incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to operational excellence across the IT organization.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Systems Engineering experience across cloud, networking, identity management, SaaS platforms, and automation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 technologies, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Intune.
  • Experience implementing and supporting SSO, SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM integrations.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and Microsoft Graph API.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts, including routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, and hybrid environments.
  • Experience supporting security and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and/or SOC 2.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
