Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance activities within a welding and steel fabrication environment. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with customer specifications, welding codes, industry standards, and internal quality requirements while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel fabrication, welding quality, inspection management, root cause analysis, and quality systems. AWS CWI certification is highly preferred.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Systems & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001, AWS D1.1/D1.6, ASME, AISC, and customer requirements.
- Maintain quality certifications, records, and compliance documentation.
- Lead internal and external quality audits.
- Coordinate corrective and preventive actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

- Oversee welding procedures, qualifications, and documentation.
- Ensure welder certifications and qualifications meet AWS, ASME, and customer standards.
- Review fabrication drawings, weld symbols, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Validate material certifications, heat numbers, and traceability documentation.
- Support production teams with welding and fabrication quality expertise.
- Manage weld inspections, dimensional inspections, and NDE activities.
- Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Lead investigations into weld defects, non-conformances, and quality concerns.
- Perform root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, and DMAIC.
- Approve final products before shipment to ensure customer and regulatory compliance.

- Lead and mentor quality inspectors and welding inspectors.
- Provide technical guidance to welders, fabricators, supervisors, and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Communicate quality requirements and findings with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Welding Engineering, Quality Management, or Steel Fabrication Quality.
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding codes and standards.
- Experience with steel fabrication processes including cutting, forming, machining, assembly, and welding.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T.
- Experience performing or supervising Non-Destructive Examination (NDE).
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience with quality documentation, audits, and compliance programs.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
