Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Programmer III based in Canada.

This role sits within a collaborative game development environment where you will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of core gameplay and engine systems. You will work across multiple disciplines—including design, art, QA, and production—to build robust and high-performance features that support both internal teams and external partners. The work spans a wide range of systems such as AI, UI, physics, graphics, and engine tools, requiring both depth in C++ and strong systems thinking. You will be part of a culture that values technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. In addition to building features, you will help ensure system stability, performance, and usability through debugging, optimization, and collaboration. This is a hands-on role where your contributions directly shape gameplay experiences and development workflows.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain features across multiple game and engine subsystems, including AI, UI, physics, character systems, graphics, and internal tools.
  • Build and optimize highly performant, scalable systems that meet technical, design, and production requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with QA and technical leadership to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system defects and ensure stability across builds.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and codebase evolution alongside senior engineers.
  • Provide feedback on technical documentation and contribute to improving internal development practices and standards.
  • Support junior developers through guidance, informal mentorship, and assistance with tools and workflow issues.
  • Break down complex technical work into structured tasks and deliver independently on assigned development responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including strong expertise in C++.
  • At least 2+ years of experience working with Unreal Engine and in collaborative game development environments.
  • Proven experience working within large, complex codebases and shipping or supporting major projects.
  • Strong understanding of 3D mathematics, performance optimization, and debugging techniques in unfamiliar systems.
  • Ability to analyze, estimate, and structure medium-to-large engineering tasks effectively.
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines, including designers, artists, producers, and external partners.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to discuss technical concepts clearly and professionally.
  • Familiarity or interest in AI-assisted development workflows is a plus.
  • Experience with Unity, proprietary engines, or console development is considered an asset.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range aligned with experience and market standards in Canada.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Group RRSP with employer matching contributions.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program for well-being support.
  • Fully remote work flexibility within eligible Canadian provinces.
  • Opportunity to work on high-quality game development projects using Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborative and inclusive studio culture focused on learning, innovation, and technical excellence.
