Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Network Engineer, the Network Engineer will be responsible for operating and maintaining the data center network environment and supporting the technical efforts for both construction and operations.


Job requirements


- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as computer troubleshooting, and repair is considered an asset.

- A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience, ideally in data centres or similar operational environment.

- Experience building and leading a team of technicians responsible for maintenance and repair of computer hardware.

- Experience or certifications with Fortinet products, including FortiGate, and FortiSwitch, are highly desirable.

- Candidates with transferable skills from Cisco's Nexus and Firepower product line are encouraged to apply.

- Experience in a fast-paced growth environment.

- Ability to travel and work flexible hours to support the organization.

-Core network skills (CCNA or equivalent).

- Computer troubleshooting capabilities (CompTIA A+ or equivalent).

- Operations in a data centre environment and understanding of the associated components (fiber optic, network switches, PDU’s, etc) is an asset.

- Ability to manage the team’s safe work around a construction and/or operating site and heavy equipment with safety top of mind.

- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership, service providers and various personnel.

- Demonstrated trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.

- Superior time management and multitasking skills with a strong sense of urgency.

- High energy and confident individual with demonstrated organization, prioritization and critical thinking skills as well as proven active listening skills.

- Superior attention to detail with an excellent command of English grammar as well as.


Job responsibilities


Network Management and Optimization:


- Oversee and maintain all network systems within the datacenter, ensuring high availability and efficiency.


Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:


- Rapidly identify and resolve network-related issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous network performance.


Hardware Maintenance and Management:


- Supervise the upkeep and operation of network hardware switches, and firewalls to ensure optimal functionality.

-Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitor network performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance network reliability and speed.


Security Oversight:


- Ensure robust network security to protect data and prevent unauthorized access.


Collaboration with External Providers:


- Work with third-party service providers for specialized network support and resolutions.


Project Management:


- Coordinate and execute network-related projects, including migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.


Infrastructure Development Support:


- Assist in the development and refinement of IT infrastructure strategies and architectures.


Documentation and Procedures:


- Create and maintain comprehensive operational procedures and workflows for network management.


On-Call Management:


- Provide and manage on-call network support, ensuring team availability for emergencies.

- Support the systems repair teams with installation and management of support systems.

- Deliver effectively on responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner.

- Provision and configure switches as part of the construction efforts and enable reliability and availability of the network upon datacenter energization.

The expected base salary for this role CAN $100,000 - 120,000/annum.

Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.


Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive)
