A leading financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Mainframe Senior Systems Programmer / Database Administrator (Db2) to join its infrastructure team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Db2 professional to take ownership of critical mainframe database environments, supporting enterprise-scale systems that underpin business-critical applications and services. You'll work alongside infrastructure, application and engineering teams to ensure the reliability, performance and security of a complex z/OS environment.
The Role
As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, optimisation and support of Db2 on z/OS, ensuring maximum availability and performance across the organisation's core platforms.
You will play a key role in system upgrades, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, automation initiatives and the ongoing evolution of the mainframe infrastructure estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support enterprise Db2 for z/OS environments
- Install, configure, upgrade and migrate Db2 subsystems and related software products
- Manage Db2 active and archive logs, zParms and subsystem configurations
- Perform system maintenance, PTF implementation and software updates
- Monitor database health, availability and performance
- Identify and implement performance improvements across database and application environments
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing and recovery processes
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and database issues
- Manage Db2 utilities including COPY, REORG, LOAD, QUIESCE and REPAIR
- Support Db2 third-party tools and vendor products
- Develop scripts and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency
- Partner with development, infrastructure and architecture teams to establish database standards and best practices
- Participate in incident, problem and change management processes

About You
You'll be an experienced Db2 professional with strong technical expertise across mainframe infrastructure and database administration.
Required Experience
- Extensive experience supporting Db2 on z/OS environments
- Strong knowledge of:
- Db2 subsystem administration
- Database performance tuning
- SQL and database design principles
- Mainframe technologies including z/OS, ISPF, JCL and JES2
- SMP/E and z/OSMF
- Experience managing Db2 upgrades, migrations and maintenance
- Knowledge of Db2 utilities and recovery tools
- Experience reviewing HOLDDATA and applying software maintenance
- Understanding of RACF security administration
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Experience with disaster recovery and high-availability environments
- Familiarity with modern scripting and automation techniques
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting large-scale financial services or enterprise environments
- Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and infrastructure automation
- Exposure to cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments
