POWER BI DEVELOPER

Summary

The Power BI Developer will lead the conversion of Tableau dashboards to Power BI, ensuring functional equivalence, optimized performance, and adherence to enterprise standards for data governance, security, and dashboard design. This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders and analytics teams to deliver production-ready, scalable reporting solutions. This role will support knowledge transfer and cross-training efforts.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with both Tableau and Power BI and preferably has participated in BI migration initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tableau to Power BI Migration

• Analyze existing Tableau dashboards, data sources, and calculations

• Translating Tableau workbooks into Power BI reports with equivalent functionality

• Map Tableau specific features (LOD calculations, parameters, extracts) to Power BI equivalents

• Recreate calculated fields, filters, and data logic

• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and validation post-migration

• Document assumptions, gaps, and transformation logic during migration

• Recommend redesign vs. direct conversion when appropriate

Power BI Development & Dashboard Design

• Develop Power BI reports using Power BI Desktop and Service

• Build and optimize data models using DAX and Power Query

• Design and optimize data models for performance, scalability, and efficient refreshes (including incremental refresh strategies)

• Design intuitive and user-friendly dashboards aligned to business needs

• Apply UX/UI, accessibility, and data storytelling best practices to create consistent, mobile-friendly, and easy-to-consume dashboards.

Data Integration & Modeling

• Connect to data sources such as Snowflake, Redshift, etc.

• Transform and clean data using Power Query

• Support dataset design and optimization for scalability and refresh efficiency

Testing & Validation

• Perform side by side validation between Tableau and Power BI outputs

• Troubleshoot discrepancies and resolve data/reporting issues

Data Governance & Security

• Apply enterprise data governance standards, including PHI/PII identification and appropriate data handling

• Ensure reports meet security and access control requirements prior to production deployment

• Implement row-level security (RLS) and data access controls as required

Expected Deliverables

• Migrated Power BI reports with validated outputs

• Documented data models and transformation logic

• Performance-optimized datasets and dashboards

• Migration validation results (Tableau vs Power BI)

• Knowledge transfer and documentation for internal teams

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

• Strong hands-on experience with:

o Power BI (Desktop + Service)

o DAX and Power Query

• Experience with Tableau (development or support)

• Advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction and validation

• Experience working with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, etc.)

• Experience with incremental refresh / performance tuning, data modeling best practices (star schema).

• Configure and support Power BI Service features including workspaces, apps, and dataset refreshes

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric / Premium capacity

Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field required

• 6+ years of experience in BI/reporting development

• Experience working in healthcare or regulated environments strongly preferred

• Prior experience in Tableau to Power BI migration projects preferred
