About The Role
The Human Resources Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the HR functions within the division, primarily focusing on administrative and operational tasks. This position acts as a key point of contact for teammates regarding HR policies, benefits, and employment programs, ensuring that all inquiries are handled professionally, discreetly, and empathetically. The HR Specialist is responsible for maintaining data integrity, preparing reports, assisting with onboarding and leave administration, and supporting compliance initiatives. This role contributes to fostering a positive and compliant workplace culture aligned with Orkin’s core values. Depending on current business needs, the position may be performed remotely within Indianapolis, Indiana (preferred), or Lexington, Kentucky, with up to 20% travel required. The role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in HR support to contribute to a dynamic and service-oriented organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in an HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, or similar support role
- Experience in service-driven or field-based organizations is preferred
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR compliance requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in a hybrid or remote environment
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion when managing sensitive employee and business information
- Serve as a primary contact for teammates regarding HR policies, programs, and procedures; escalate issues as needed
- Assist with onboarding processes, including verifying rehire eligibility, coordinating orientation, and benefits enrollment reminders
- Support HR reporting and data preparation for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports related to compensation, benefits, employee relations, and other metrics
- Analyze HR data to identify trends and provide actionable insights to HR and business leaders
- Conduct routine audits of employee data to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Provide administrative support for leave of absence management, coordinating with HR and operations leadership when necessary
- Prepare and distribute employment status notifications, such as job abandonment or employment status changes
- Support relocation requests and tracking, ensuring proper documentation and communication
- Coordinate collection and delivery of documentation requested by legal or internal partners
- Manage and triage HR-related communications via email, phone, or digital platforms, ensuring timely follow-up or reassignment
- Listen actively to teammate concerns, providing guidance or support within authorized limits or under HR leadership’s direction
- Maintain accurate HR records, files, and documentation in line with company policies and legal standards
- Offer feedback and suggestions for improving HR processes, trends, and workplace practices
- Provide backup support to HR leaders and participate in departmental meetings, training, and initiatives aimed at continuous improvement
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support HR operations and organizational goals
