Senior EMS Engineer – Transmission Operations & Real-Time Systems
Location: Remote – United States
Job Type: Full-Time - Permanent | Utility Grid Operations / EMS Technology
Salary: $130,000 – $150,000 per year
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior EMS Engineer with strong experience supporting, customizing, and optimizing Energy Management Systems (EMS) used in real-time transmission grid operations. This role works directly with mission-critical technology that supports grid reliability, situational awareness, and high-availability transmission operations.
This is a U.S. remote position with a focus on system development, troubleshooting, deployments, and real-time operational support.
What You’ll Do
- Customize and support EMS systems used in transmission grid operations.
- Develop EMS components using C, C++, Java, and C.
- Install and configure OS patches, security updates, and third-party tools (Oracle, NetApp, etc.).
- Perform system administration on Linux and Windows environments.
- Analyze logs and debug files to resolve real-time system issues.
- Lead EMS deployments, upgrades, and patch installations in live environments.
- Manage configuration and source control using GitHub and ClearCase.
- Troubleshoot system and network issues (TCP/IP, DNS, LAN, firewalls).
- Support SCADA/EMS application performance, alarms, telemetry, and data processing.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on custom EMS enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and operational standards.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of EMS experience in electric utility or transmission operations.
- 5+ years supporting real-time, mission-critical systems.
- Strong software development experience: C, C++, Java.
- Expert knowledge of Linux, Windows, Oracle SQL, and shell scripting.
- Experience installing patches, debugging issues, and supporting live operational systems.
- Understanding of transmission grid operations, EMS applications, and SCADA workflows.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s a plus).
