Backend Automation Engineer

DAIN (Decentralized Autonomous Infrastructure Network) is building a real-time automation and orchestration platform - the automation layer that connects AI agents, Web2 services, and Web3 protocols.

We're creating a universal automation layer where AI agents and services can interact, coordinate, and transact autonomously - across chains, APIs, and applications.

Our current platform uses TypeScript/Node.js, BullMQ, and AWS, and we're evolving it into a distributed, event-driven runtime capable of handling millions of concurrent automations in real time.

This is an opportunity to own and shape the core infrastructure that powers the next generation of agent-based automation.

We're looking for a Backend Automation Engineer to take ownership of DAIN's orchestration and runtime systems - designing, building, and evolving the backend that drives our automation network.

You'll start by assessing and extending our BullMQ-based orchestration layer, then help lead the evolution toward a distributed event-driven architecture (Kafka, Redis Streams, or equivalent).

You'll work directly with our founding team (experts in DeFi, TypeScript, and system design) to define the architecture, scalability, and reliability of DAIN's automation core.

●   Own and evolve DAIN's backend orchestration runtime - currently powered by BullMQ.

●      Design and build asynchronous job orchestration, workflows, and event execution logic.

●      Architect event-driven systems (Kafka, Redis Streams, or similar) to connect agents, services, and integrations.

●      Implement reliability mechanisms - retries, idempotency, dead-letter queues, and backoff strategies.

●      Scale distributed consumers and workers, balancing throughput, ordering, and fault tolerance.

●      Integrate Web2 and Web3 triggers (Slack, Gmail, Telegram, blockchain events, etc.) into unified event flows.

●      Collaborate with system architects to define APIs, schemas, and patterns for cross-service communication.

●      Instrument observability - metrics, logs, and tracing for automation reliability.

●  Continuously improve performance, scalability, and developer experience within the automation layer.

Core Engineering

●      5+ years backend engineering experience (Node.js / TypeScript).

●      Strong knowledge of asynchronous systems - queues, messaging, concurrency.

●      Hands-on experience with BullMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar message brokers.

●      Deep understanding of event-driven architecture and distributed systems.

●      Experience implementing retries, DLQs, idempotency, and failure-resilient logic.

●      Familiar with microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, and service orchestration patterns.

●      Solid grasp of data consistency, state management, and fault tolerance.

Infrastructure & Operations

●      Comfortable with AWS (Lambda, EC2, S3, ECS, CloudWatch) or equivalent cloud stack.

●      Experience with Docker and container-based deployments.

●      Understands scaling strategies (partitioning, load balancing, worker pools).

●      Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools.

Collaboration & Ownership

●      Able to assess, design, and take full ownership of core systems.

●      Pragmatic and self-directed - can ship solutions before systems are perfect.

●      Excellent communication skills; comfortable discussing trade-offs and architecture.

●  Familiarity with Redis Streams, Temporal.io, or Celery-like orchestration systems.

●   Experience integrating Web2 and Web3 systems - APIs, webhooks, or smart contracts.

●  Exposure to DeFi, blockchain events, or on-chain/off-chain automation.

●  Knowledge of data pipelines (Airflow, Dagster, dbt) and how they differ from real-time orchestration.

●  Experience with LangChain, AI agent frameworks, or event-based LLM integrations.

●  Background in system observability, tracing, or distributed debugging.

●  Prior startup or early-stage ownership experience.

●  Work on the core automation layer powering a new generation of agent-based systems.
