Job Description Summary

The Embedded Software (Test) Engineer is a critical role within the aerospace sector, dedicated to the rigorous testing of embedded software running on many assorted products. This position demands an understanding of Software Test methods including requirements based testing, test script development, and hardware/software integration skills. This role requires experience in analyzing Software Requirements and Models for testability. The role requires continuous integration and continuous build experience.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids MI, and necessitates a presence in the office for three days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities:

  • DO-178C Software Verification: Develop test framework, test cases, test procedures for requirements-based testing of embedded software. Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders throughout the software life-cycle.
  • Perform Software Test Automation: Expertise in using automation tools and frameworks to design and implement test scripts.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, and C to develop and maintain automated tests.
  • Perform integration of automated tests into Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Familiarity with various development methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, and DevOps.
  • Provide informal guidance to new team members. Work in an agile/scrum environment and lead a small team as needed.

Technical Skills

  • DO-178C Compliance: Understanding of DO-178C guidelines and ensuring all testing activities comply with DO-178C standards.
  • DO-330 Compliance: Understanding of DO-330 (Software Tool Qualification Considerations) in the qualification of software tools used in the verification of airborne systems. Collaboration with Tool Vendors, work with vendors to obtain necessary documentation, support, and updates required for tool qualification and ongoing compliance with DO-330.
  • Hardware-Software Integration Testing: Conducting integration tests to ensure that the software correctly interfaces with hardware components.
  • Regression Testing: Performing regression testing to ensure that changes or enhancements do not introduce defects into existing functionality.
  • Experience/Familiarity with tools such as: DOORS, Cameo EA, JTAG Debuggers, Jenkins, SAST Tools such as “QAC-CWE”.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma/GED with at least 6 years of experience in Engineering and Technology.
  • 1-2 years of experience in testing/building embedded software.

Eligibility Requirement (s)

  • US Citizen: This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a Verification/Validation (V&V) role for a DO-178B/C project.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in full life cycle software development, with expertise in V&V.
  • Knowledge of Model Based Design (UML Models).
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration, and DevOps strategies.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher (for GE Employees).
  • Experience working with global development teams, including GE and Preferred Suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet cost/schedule targets and effectively interface with all organization levels.

The base pay range for this position is $79,800.00 - $82,000.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on 10/31/25.
