Director of Engineering — Remote (EU)
My client is a fast-growing, product-led tech company building intuitive tools for teams. They’re hiring a senior engineering leader to own delivery, scale their platform, and quietly accelerate new AI-powered capabilities across the product. This role is fully remote (EU timezones only).
Why this role is exciting
- You’ll shape the engineering org end-to-end: hiring, structure, processes and technical vision.
- The product is mature enough to scale but still early-stage in machine learning/AI features — you’ll have real influence to define how AI becomes a reliable product differentiator (no hype: practical, user-focused ML/AI work).
- High ownership: set roadmap trade-offs, introduce modern engineering practices, and drive measurable impact on user outcomes.
What you’ll own
- Lead and grow an engineering team (hands-on leadership + strategic hiring and mentoring).
- Own technical roadmap, architecture and delivery for a SaaS product used by distributed teams.
- Partner with Product, Design and Data to turn business priorities into reliable, secure, and scalable systems.
- Drive the introduction and productionisation of AI/ML-driven features — from prototyping through monitoring, evaluation and safe rollout.
- Improve engineering KPIs: reliability, velocity, quality, and observability.
- Ensure compliance with EU data protection and security expectations.
About you (what we’re looking for)
- 8+ years in engineering with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role (Head/Director/VP of Eng).
- Strong track record scaling SaaS products and engineering teams.
- Experience shipping features that touch data, analytics or ML/AI (you don’t need to be a research scientist — proven delivery of data-driven products is what matters).
- Comfortable with cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, microservices or well-structured monoliths, and production monitoring.
- Excellent stakeholder skills: you can represent engineering to execs, align cross-functional teams, and translate technical trade-offs into product outcomes.
- Experience working remotely and managing distributed teams across EU timezones.
- Fluent in English; EU-based residency required for this fully-remote role.
Nice-to-haves (not strict requirements)
- Hands-on experience with ML model lifecycle (prototyping, model ops, A/B or rollout strategies).
- Familiarity with privacy-first product design (GDPR-aware architectures).
- Experience hiring senior engineering managers and building engineering culture.
What my client offers
- Remote-first culture (EU hours) with flexible working.
- A compact, high-impact environment where leadership decisions are visible and move the needle.
- Budget for professional development, conferences, and hardware.
- Competitive compensation package (salary + benefits / equity depending on seniority).
