Senior Data Engineer (Freelance, 100% Remote)

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our client’s team on a full time freelance basis. You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures that support advanced analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning use cases.

This is a 100% remote role with full time EU / SAST working hours aligned to EU time zone. Must be available for daily everyday at 0930 CET.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• 5+ Years as a Data Engineer
• Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL pipelines for large-scale data processing.
• Build and optimize data architectures (data warehouses, data lakes, streaming platforms).
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data availability and reliability.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with governance/security standards.
• Automate workflows and implement monitoring solutions for data processes.
• Support migration and integration projects with cloud and on-prem systems.

WHAT WILL MAKE US HAPPY 🤩

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer in large scale organisations
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases (ideally Postgres)
• Expertise in ETL tools and data pipeline frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Kafka, Spark).
• Solid understanding of data warehousing and data lake architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / Azure)
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote setup.
• Excellent communication skills in English (written & spoken).

• Knowledge of machine learning / MLOps
• Familiarity with data governance, GDPR compliance, and security best practices.
• Exposure to FinTech / Insurance / Asset Management sector
