Back End Developer (TypeScript/Node.js/AWS) in UNITED KINGDOM

Remote 2 hours ago

You've built e-commerce systems. You know your PDPs from your SKUs. You're fluent in TypeScript and AWS Lambda is your second home. Sound like you?

Right now, you're probably working on someone else's legacy mess. Or you're a tiny cog in a massive machine where your brilliant code disappears into the void. Or maybe you're at a startup that's one bad quarter away from panic mode.

What if you could have the best of everything?

We're working with a fast-growing digital division of a major European pet food group. They're building a centralised e-commerce platform from scratch for multiple premium brands across the UK and EU. Think: greenfield-ish projects, modern architecture, actual impact—minus the startup terror.

The work is genuinely interesting. You'll be working on platform migrations for multiple brands, with the next one kicking off in January. We're talking AWS macroservices architecture built from the ground up using TypeScript, Lambda, API Gateway, and Commercetools. This is headless/MACH architecture territory—no brownfield nightmares here. You'll be solving real problems like "How do we migrate 500k customers without breaking everything?" instead of patching together someone else's technical debt.

Your voice will actually matter. This is a lean team; you'll be number three on the backend. Small enough that your code makes a visible difference, and growing fast enough that you can get in early and shape what comes next. You won't spend three months onboarding just to understand what the hell you're actually building.

The stability is real. This isn't some venture-backed gamble. You're backed by a massive European parent company with a multi-million pound business and a 3-year rollout plan. You get all the excitement of building something new without the "will we make payroll?" anxiety that keeps you up at night.

The flexibility is genuine. Fully remote. And we mean actually remote across the UK , not "remote until we change our minds" remote. You're looking at 37.5 hours a week with no "startup hustle culture" nonsense, Christmas to New Year off that doesn't eat into your holiday allowance, and health insurance thrown in.

What you need (and what you don't)

You'll need at least 3 years with TypeScript and Node.js, proper hands-on AWS experience, especially with Lambda and API Gateway, and here's the big one—e-commerce background. Whether that's from an agency, an in-house brand, or somewhere adjacent, you just need to get how online retail actually works. If you've got Commercetools experience, we genuinely need to talk today. If you don't, that's fine too—they'll teach you.

What you don't need is every single AWS service known to humanity. You can learn Kinesis Streams on the job. You don't need to be a "rockstar ninja" because they're all adults. And perfect experience? Please. Good with Shopify? Great. Magento? Brilliant. The point is you understand e-commerce, not that you've memorised every platform's documentation.

The deadlines are tight. The work is challenging. You'll be expected to think creatively and solve problems independently. But if you're bored of brownfield projects, tired of corporate bureaucracy, and ready to build something modern with real impact? This is it.

Realistically, you'd start in January to hit the ground running on the next migration. Perfect timing if you're on a notice period now.

Think this sounds like you? Stop maintaining someone else's legacy mess and come build something new.
