Team & Job Overview
The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
- Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
- Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
- Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
- Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow, and succeed internationally, the Digital Platform Delivery & Architecture (DPDA) group in EDC plays a critical role in enabling leaders to leverage technologies by providing an easy-to-use, secure and fit-for-purpose digital business platform.
To better position ourselves for success, the Digital Business Platforms group is seeking a
Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack Developer) to implement the strategic technology vision by building an effective platform that supports the needs of EDC now and in the future. This role is accountable for the hands-on design, build, support, and operations of the Insurance Group. The primary focus will be developing the Web applications along with integration capabilities, expanding support for integration patterns, maintaining an integration catalogue, promoting the use of the platform, and monitoring and tuning the platform to maximize the effectiveness of all the technology teams at EDC.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in both front-end and back-end technologies, with experience in cloud platforms, DevOps, and modern development frameworks. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required to collaborate with the team and stakeholders to translate big plans into achievable timelines and incremental deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain responsive, scalable web applications using React, Angular, or JavaScript technologies.
- Design and implement robust backend solutions with Node.js, Python, or .NET
- Advocate for innovative, creative solutions to complex problems that broadly impact EDC.
- Producing high quality, secure, scalable, performant code as part of middleware, integration, and migration components.
- Supports the key stakeholders in translating business needs into adequate technical solutions.
- Reviews systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts created by other teams to provide direction and advice in areas related to Front-End, API, integration, and DevOps.
- Guide the adoption of best practices in coding, documentation, testing, and other aspects of the software lifecycle.
- Applying your continually improving understanding of knowledge of EDC’s software, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, and the industry in general.
- Actively participating in knowledge-sharing sessions as a presenter and as an attendee practicing continuous learning.
- Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections, and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view.
Screening Criteria
- Post-secondary degree in a related field such as Computer Science or Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience of Full Stack development with modern front-end and back-end technologies.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Angula, ReactJS, TypeScript, Python or C#
- Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, Express, Django, Spring Boot, or .NET Core.
- Advanced knowledge in Web services, microservices, and API development
- Advanced knowledge in Integration services, including JSON, REST, and SOAP protocols
- Proficiency in CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Ability to approach challenges with innovative, user-centered solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills attention to detail, and a passion for innovation.
Assets
- Knowledge in UI/UX best practices and design principles.
- Familiarity with Test-Driven development (TDD) and automated testing.
- Azure Developer Certifications
- Experience in financial services or enterprise applications.
- Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
Compensation Details
- Software Engineer 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location
- Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
- This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto, Montreal, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, Brossard, Halifax, Calgary, or Vancouver.
