About the role
Homeflow is seeking a senior-level backend engineer based in the UK to support our expanding development team. This role will collaborate closely with other backend engineers and the backend lead to handle business-as-usual (BAU) client tickets and implement long-term improvements to our platform. You will have the opportunity to contribute to technical strategy, develop new features, and refine best practices. While the role is primarily remote, occasional travel for team meetings may be required.
Location: Remote (UK-Based)
Key responsibilities
* Design and develop new features, including writing user stories
* Collaborate with senior staff to define technical strategy and best practices
* Actively participate in team discussions, stand-ups, and retrospectives
* Diagnose and fix backend issues to maintain system reliability
* Add test coverage to legacy applications to improve stability
* Enhance continuous integration and delivery pipelines
* Continuously expand knowledge of relevant technologies
Qualifications
* At least three years of professional experience in software development
* Proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, either currently or in recent past roles
* Experience with test-driven/behavior-driven development (RSpec)
* Ability to write clean, efficient, and scalable code
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex tasks independently
* Self-motivated with a sense of ownership and autonomy in decision-making
* Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred qualifications
* Experience with static code analysis tools such as Rubocop and Brakeman
* Familiarity with both document and relational database systems (MySQL, MongoDB, Docker)
