Python Backend Software Engineer in DENMARK

About Us

Chocolate Cloud ApS is a Danish start-up founded in 2014 by researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Aarhus University. Our objective is to provide flexible, highly reliable, and high-speed cloud storage technologies using erasure codes with an emphasis on network coding. We have our own cloud storage products (SkyFlok SaaS and a multi-cloud object storage service in the works), and we are also regularly participating in European Union R&D projects.

Role Description

We are looking to expand our fully remote engineering team with a Software Engineer who is experienced in building and maintaining distributed systems. Our cloud-based application platform is composed of Python-based microservices and custom C++ components, running on Google Cloud and Fly.io.

As a team member you will be working in close collaboration with senior software engineers on our software-as-a-service solution SkyFlok, as well as representing our company in an EU Horizon Europe project as part of a multinational consortium. We regularly work on research topics and publish to peer-reviewed international conferences and journals, if you aspire to publish research papers, you can too.

We are looking for a senior backend engineer with a substantial experience in Python, and ideally either frontend (Typescript, VueJS) and/or machine learning as extra skills.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as proactivity are required
• Computer science skills: a solid understanding of computer science concepts and algorithms, with an emphasis on distributed systems
• Back-end web development skills: experience with back-end web development technologies such as microservices, REST APIs, web security and distributed applications
• Software development skills: the ability to design, build, and maintain high-quality and performant software solutions. You should be familiar with workflows in Git.
• Solid experience in Python is a must, additionally C++ and/or Typescript are beneficial
• Ideally, you have worked with the services of one or more commercial cloud providers: Google Cloud (preferred), AWS, Fly.IO or Cloudflare
• Experience with cloud storage technologies or network coding would be beneficial

You must be a resident of an EU country to be considered for this position. Additionally, the job requires traveling approximately 2-3 times per year to regular project meetings in various EU countries.
