Software Engineer in NETHERLANDS

Remote 1 year ago

We are looking for a mid/senior software engineer (fully remote) to help us launch a cutting-edge cleantech solution. Keywords: Python, time series, web apps, async, HomeAssistant, optimization/planning, forecasting.

Energy background is an advantage, but you can also grow here into this new field and learn cool open technologies.

Company

We are an open-source software startup in The Netherlands, working on CO2-reducing cloud software. Check https://www.lfenergy.org/projects/flexmeasures/ to see our platform and its code. Our mission is to speed up the energy transition with smart software, across sectors and the world, as fast as possible: https://seita.nl/why/

Seita is founded by software engineers. You will learn with and from us. You will contribute code to open source projects, and also interact with the open source world, e.g. this is a recent presentation at the FOSDEM 2024 conference: https://fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event/fosdem-2024-2509-using-flexmeasures-to-build-a-climate-tech-startup-in-15-minutes/

Please apply until October, 13.

As a bootstrapping startup, our budget is currently limited, so we expect that at this stage we can best cooperate with software developers from non-Western countries. Our team already spans three continents :) We compensate according to skill level and also local conditions like GDP.

Sadly, we cannot sponsor visas at this time.

Role Description

This is a full-time Software Engineer role and fully remote.

  • You will work with us on the APIs and logic of our energy management solution. This requires development in Flask and on relational databases. Time series are our daily bread. Take a look at our Github to see how we interact on pull requests (https://github.com/FlexMeasures/, https://github.com/SeitaBV/)
  • We will implement a building energy management system in of our ongoing projects, where you will help develop features in both FlexMeasures (cloud) and the local solution (in the HomeAssistant environment, also an open source project) and async programming. You can also learn about an innovative energy flexibility standard (https://s2standard.org/)
  • We want to involve you in joint design and requirements sessions with partners, so the best innovation path is found. We want your help in documenting this journey.

Qualifications

In general, we expect a Masters-degree level of education in a relevant field. However, Bachelor's education can be possible, as we've seen very good candidates shine through their relevant and demonstrable work experience. Programming is definitely a craft, not just algorithms.

  • Strong experience in Python - programming real-world, dependable software is a key task
  • Good knowledge of Linux OS and command line tools
  • Experience with time series data (also Pandas)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Analytical thinking
  • Bonus: Knowledge / experience with energy applications
  • Bonus: Experience in optimization, we use linear programming (Pyomo, HiGHS)

Interview process

Please let us know about your motivation to join us (and feel also free to ask questions about the position). We are interested how the first five points in the qualifications list above have been relevant in your career so far.

We will have an informal conversation with interesting candidates, and a small and respectful assignment as second step.
