Job Description
PYTHON PRODUCTION ENGINEER – ELECTRONIC TRADING SYSTEMS
TIER-ONE GLOBAL QUANTITATIVE TRADING FIRM – TOKYO (Paid Relocation, Visa Sponsorship)
BAH Partners specialise in placing leading technology talent into Asia’s leading financial organisations.
My client is a tier-one global quantitative investment and trading firm, where technology and engineering sit at the heart of the business. Their engineers work directly alongside quantitative researchers and traders to build and operate sophisticated systems underpinning a large-scale global trading operation.
As the firm continues to grow its Tokyo technology presence, they are looking for strong Python software engineers to join their Electronic Trading Systems / Production Engineering team.
This is not a traditional production support position. The role is designed for software engineers who want to remain hands-on with development while taking greater ownership of business-critical live trading systems.
THE ROLE
- Build Python applications, tooling and automation supporting a global electronic trading environment.
- Develop and improve systems focused on reliability, performance and scalability.
- Build real-time monitoring and automation around live trading systems.
- Diagnose and solve complex technical issues in a performance-critical Linux environment.
- Contribute to new trading capabilities, platform upgrades and improvements to existing systems.
- Work across areas including deployment, performance measurement, capacity planning and exchange connectivity.
- Collaborate directly with quantitative traders, researchers and software engineers across the business.
- Combine hands-on development with end-to-end ownership of production systems.

WHO THEY'RE LOOKING FOR
- Strong Python software engineering skills and experience building production-quality applications, tools or automation.
- Strong computer science and object-oriented programming fundamentals.
- Strong Linux experience and confidence troubleshooting applications in a production environment.
- Comfortable with a role combining software development and production engineering/support.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving and automation skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both engineers and business users.
- Broadly open on seniority – approximately 3–10+ years' experience, with highly technical senior individual contributors also considered.
- Experience within electronic trading or financial markets is advantageous, but not essential.
- Developers whose strongest language is another OO language such as Java or C++ can also be considered where they have relevant Python experience.
- Japanese language skills are not required.
- Candidates based internationally can be considered, with relocation and visa sponsorship available for Tokyo.

Candidates can also use their preferred object-oriented programming language during the coding interview process.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity for a strong Python or Java engineer to take their development experience into one of the world's leading quantitative trading environments, working on systems where performance, reliability and engineering quality have a direct impact on the business.
A major attraction of the opportunity is the chance to relocate to Tokyo, with relocation costs and visa sponsorship fully supported by the firm. Japanese language skills are not required, making this an excellent opportunity for international engineers looking to build their career in Japan.
You will remain hands-on with software development while gaining much closer exposure to live electronic trading systems, working alongside quantitative traders, researchers and experienced engineers.
Rather than operating several steps removed from your users, you will have genuine ownership and visibility – building automation and tooling, improving platforms, solving challenging technical problems and seeing the direct impact of your work in production.
For Python developers looking for challenging engineering problems, greater ownership and exposure to quantitative trading, this is a rare opportunity to join a highly technical, collaborative and international environment while making a fully supported move to Tokyo.
The firm offers highly competitive compensation, strong career development, paid relocation and full visa sponsorship for candidates moving to Japan.
