About The Role

Motional is seeking a highly skilled Staff Front End Engineer to join its Web Visualization Tooling team. This critical role involves developing advanced web tooling and visualization systems that enhance feedback loops for machine learning engineers and optimize the performance and adaptability of autonomous vehicle systems. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the frontend architecture, drive best practices, and collaborate across multiple teams including ML, UX, data services, and data annotation. You will be responsible for designing and scaling a modern frontend ecosystem utilizing React, TypeScript, and Vue, ensuring the delivery of mission-critical UI systems used internally. Your expertise will contribute to complex, data-heavy workflows and initiatives that demand high performance, scalability, and maintainability. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, product-driven environment where rapid iteration and innovation are encouraged. You will be a key driver in establishing standards, mentoring other engineers, and working directly with customers to identify and address their core needs. The position offers flexibility with hybrid or fully remote work options, supporting collaboration and individual autonomy.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architecture
• Experience with Vue.js
• Strong understanding of UX principles and usability
• Ability to work independently with high ownership and autonomy
• Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills
• Experience designing complex, data-heavy UI systems
• Strong technical documentation and design habits
• Experience working directly with customers to gather requirements and provide solutions
• Bonus: Project management expertise and familiarity with agile methodologies
• Bonus: Exposure to backend systems such as Node.js or Python
