2. About the Role
Nango is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join its core engineering team and build the platform and developer infrastructure powering its integration ecosystem.
This is a high-impact role at the center of a product-led company where engineers directly influence the product roadmap, technical specifications, and execution. You will own critical backend systems end-to-end, from ideation and architecture through implementation and collaboration with developer customers.
The ideal candidate has extensive backend engineering experience, a strong understanding of developer infrastructure, APIs, databases, scalability, performance, and reliability, and a passion for creating exceptional developer experiences.
Staff-level candidates should have 10+ years of backend engineering experience. Senior-level candidates should have 5+ years of experience.
3. Key Responsibilities
Design, architect, and scale backend systems, APIs, and services supporting Nango's open-source platform.
Build and improve developer-facing infrastructure, including APIs, SDKs, UIs, and runtime systems.
Develop reliable and scalable systems capable of supporting high-traffic workloads.
Optimize backend services for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Work directly with developer customers to understand and solve complex integration challenges.
Own critical technical systems and decisions from ideation and design through implementation and deployment.
Contribute directly to product roadmap decisions and broader company strategy.
Define technical specifications and engineering approaches for key platform initiatives.
Engage with the open-source community and contribute to the maintenance and evolution of the company's repository.

4. Required Qualifications
10+ years of backend engineering experience for Staff-level candidates.
Proven experience designing and scaling high-traffic production systems.
Deep expertise in backend engineering, developer infrastructure, APIs, databases, and performance-critical systems.
Strong experience with modern backend development and Node.js.
Strong understanding of system scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
Experience taking ownership of complex systems and projects from design through execution.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment.
