Job Description
Role & Responsibilities
HAUS is seeking an experienced freelance Brand Designer. The ideal person will be responsible for the following:
- Design Comprehensive Brand Identities for Deep Tech Startups: Create complete visual identity systems—logos, wordmarks, typography, color palettes, iconography, and supporting graphic language—for B2B tech companies from initial concept through final brand guidelines. Your work translates a startup's positioning, technology, and ambition into a visual identity that gives them credibility with investors, customers, and talent from day one.
- Execute Zero-to-One Branding at Startup Pace: Deep tech founders move fast, and their brands need to keep up. You'll take zero-to-one branding work from blank canvas to launched identity, holding design quality across compressed timelines and rapid iteration cycles without losing strategic alignment or craft.
- Extend Brand Systems Across Every Touchpoint: Design brand applications spanning digital and physical contexts, including websites, pitch decks, business systems, trade show environments, product UI surfaces, marketing collateral, and social content. Your systems should hold together across a wide range of executions and scale as the client grows, not just look good on a hero shot.
- Editorial Thinking on Brand Storytelling: Work closely with the HAUS brand strategists, copywriters, and creative directors to translate positioning into visual expression. You don't just style what you're handed. You push on the strategic brief when the visual direction it implies is wrong, and you defend your design choices with clear rationale grounded in what the brand needs to do in the market.
- Build Brand Guidelines That Actually Get Used: Produce guidelines and style guides that give client teams—and the agencies they'll hire later—everything they need to extend the brand consistently after handoff. Your documentation should be rigorous enough to prevent drift and clear enough that non-designers can apply the system correctly.
- Collaborate Closely with the HAUS Creative Team: You'll be embedded with HAUS creative directors and strategists rather than working directly with clients. That means presenting concepts and rationale internally, taking direction and feedback from the creative leads carrying the client relationship, and iterating on the work so the HAUS team can carry it into client conversations with confidence.

Qualifications
- Passion for Deep Tech: You must love deep tech and be genuinely excited by cutting-edge technologies.
- Portfolio & Experience: Professional experience designing brand identities in an agency or comparable environment, ideally with meaningful exposure to venture-backed or B2B tech clients. Your portfolio must demonstrate multiple complete brand identity projects taken from concept to launch, showing not just polished logos but the full system—typography, color, applications, and brand documentation.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Figma. Comfort with typography setting, print production requirements, and digital design specifications across the applications a modern brand system has to live in.
- Design Fundamentals: Deep grounding in graphic design. You understand type systems, color theory, layout, hierarchy, and composition at a level that lets you design brand systems from first principles rather than reworking references or leaning on trends.
- Zero-to-One Brand Thinking: Demonstrated ability to build brand identities from a blank canvas, not just refresh or extend existing ones. You know how to work from a strategic positioning brief (or help develop one) into a distinctive visual expression, and you can move from broad exploration to a resolved system without losing conviction along the way.
- Translating Technical Concepts Visually: Experience designing for complex technical products and translating dense engineering or scientific concepts into accessible, compelling visual language. You can look at a founder's technical whitepaper and see the brand hiding inside it.
- Attention to Detail: Precision matters. Loose kerning, off-spec color, sloppy exports, and inconsistent applications undermine the credibility of an entire identity. You take pride in work that holds up to scrutiny at every level of zoom.

- Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills. You can walk creative directors, strategists, and writers on the HAUS team through your design decisions with clear rationale, take feedback without ego, and hand work off cleanly so the team can carry it forward. Since our team is distributed, you need to be comfortable working remotely, collaborating via Slack and Zoom, and proactively communicating status and blockers.
- Tech Savvy & Curiosity: A genuine passion for technology and innovation is important. Our clients are building world-changing tech in AI, robotics, biotech, aerospace, and more. Your enthusiasm for these domains will help you brand them with the depth and specificity they deserve.
- Bonus Skills: Experience designing brand systems that extend into web and product surfaces is a plus. Familiarity with motion design principles, 3D tooling like Blender or Cinema 4D, or custom type design work will help your work stand out. Any prior work in aerospace, defense, robotics, semiconductors, biotech, climate, energy, or other deep tech verticals will help you understand our clients faster.
