Mechanical Engineer - Subsea / Offshore Wind in UNITED KINGDOM

Visa sponsorship & Relocation 1 year ago

Who Are We?

Thaleron is a driven team with significant financial backing developing an entirely new mechanical energy storage technology. We have proven it in the lab, and are now building our first scale prototypes. Our aim is not to just make a carbon-free grid cost-competitive with fossil fuels, but drastically cheaper. If we succeed, we will unlock the fourth industrial revolution.

Your Team

We believe in small superstar teams, with high autonomy and responsibility. As a Mechanical Engineer at Thaleron, you’ll be part of a team of world experts, developing new concepts, rapidly building and testing to destruction.

Our engineering team is onsite in Maidenhead at least three days per week, creating an environment conducive to rapid innovation and seamless teamwork. For international applicants, we'll financially support your relocation and cover any visa costs.

Your Role

As we validate our energy storage technology, it's apparent that we need Engineers with experience in offshore / subsea design. You'll bring your experiences of developing reliable, certifiable systems to help us mature our prototype into a production-intent system:

  • Design, build and test functioning prototypes by thinking creatively to find novel solutions that optimise for performance and cost
  • Quickly assess their feasibility and performance from first principles calculations
  • Iterate on designs in your head, reaching working solutions before formal design
  • Design in CAD around the most suitable manufacturing methods
  • Design and build test rigs with appropriate sensors to determine the performance of prototypes
  • Assemble all the above and conduct tests

What you need to succeed:

Cultural:

  • Very strong team player. Working well as part of our team is, if anything, more important than individual brilliance
  • A bias for action and getting hands-on work done

Technical:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any equivalent field
  • Good analytical (applied maths) skills to calculate performance and feasibility of mechanical designs. Sheet metal stresses, structural steel frames, aerodynamic drag, inertia
  • High spatial reasoning to allow accurate and rapid 3D design before CAD
  • CAD skills - solids, sheet metal, weldments, surfaces, design in context, simulation
  • Able to produce accurate technical drawings with tolerances
