Job Description

About The Company

Mercura Technologies Inc. is a pioneering startup dedicated to transforming the manual industries that shape our world. As part of YC W25, we focus on helping companies in sectors such as healthcare, education, and energy operate with the agility and efficiency of modern software solutions. Our mission is to automate back-office workflows that underpin a $12 trillion industry, enabling these industries to move at software speed. Since our inception, we have rapidly scaled from an initial focus on streamlining technical requests into accurate quotes, reaching $2 million in annual recurring revenue within our first year. With a talented team of 16 professionals, we are now targeting $10 million ARR by the end of 2026 and expanding our footprint into the United States. Our culture emphasizes innovation, ownership, and impact, driven by a team of experienced operators, ex-founders, and top-tier graduates from institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge. We are committed to building a sustainable, impactful company that leverages cutting-edge AI technology to improve real-world workflows and industries.

About The Role

We are seeking an AI/LLM Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a critical role in building agentic AI systems from end to end. This is a fast-paced, hands-on position designed for engineers with a strong sense of ownership, technical depth, and a founder mindset. The successful candidate will work on developing reliable AI systems in production, including retrieval and Large Language Model (LLM) orchestration, tool-using agents, and seamless product integrations. Your work will directly influence how users interact with AI within complex workflows, making a tangible impact on industries that are often overlooked but vital to the economy. You will collaborate closely with talented engineers and mentors to design, develop, and optimize AI systems that are scalable, robust, and efficient. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI-powered automation in real-world applications and to grow rapidly alongside a high-growth startup.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a proven track record in architecting and deploying complex AI/LLM-powered systems in production environments. Experience with model serving, orchestration of agent workflows, monitoring, and scaling AI workloads is essential. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in processing and structuring large volumes of unstructured data and developing evaluation and feedback loops to continuously improve AI performance. Proficiency in Python is required, and experience with full-stack development using React, Typescript, and FastAPI is a plus. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of ownership, initiative, and a mission-driven mindset, with the ability to work independently and drive projects forward with minimal guidance. A product-oriented approach, quick iteration skills, and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced startup environment are highly valued. Candidates should be excited about working in person in Munich and committed to contributing to our ambitious growth goals.

Responsibilities

Design and develop end-to-end LLM-powered agentic systems, including experimentation, deployment, and optimization. Build retrieval and context pipelines such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), hybrid search, and structured retrieval to enable reliable reasoning over extensive technical and commercial data. Develop robust evaluation and monitoring systems to measure and enhance AI performance in production environments. Create scalable data pipelines capable of processing and structuring large volumes of unstructured documents and data sources. Implement automated feedback mechanisms that allow AI systems to learn from usage data and human input, ensuring continuous improvement. Own the architecture, reliability, and scalability of AI systems in production, maintaining high standards of speed, robustness, and efficiency. Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities seamlessly into the overall product experience, ensuring that solutions meet user needs and business objectives.

Benefits

Joining Mercura offers an unparalleled learning experience, with a steep growth curve driven by building a company from scratch. You will have the freedom to innovate, experiment, and lead projects, gaining founder-like ownership over your domain. Our work directly impacts real-world industries, contributing to economic growth and sustainability at scale. You will work alongside exceptional colleagues, including experienced operators, ex-founders, Olympiad medallists, and graduates from top institutions, providing a stimulating environment for professional growth. We foster radical transparency, ensuring you always understand the company's direction, performance metrics, and strategic decisions. Our comprehensive benefits include a company card and access to any AI or productivity tools you need, real equity with favorable tax treatment, and a vibrant company culture with team dinners, memberships, and team activities. Our Munich office is located in the WERK1 startup incubator, with support for easy relocation, including an apartment nearby for affordable rent.
