Member of Technical Staff (Backend / Infrastructure)
New York City (on-site, 5 days) Type: Full-time Salary: $250,000–$300,000 + equity
An AI healthcare firm is automating how large US insurers review medical cases and approve treatment. They're around 40 people, funded by top-tier VCs, and signing insurer contracts faster than they can build against them. They need senior backend engineers to close that gap.
This is a backend and infrastructure role. Their product installs inside each customer's own environment rather than being sold as a website, so there's nothing consumer-facing to build. Services, integrations and data movement, end to end.

What you'll be doing
- Building the services, APIs and data pipelines the platform runs on
- Scaling and toughening their AWS estate to handle insurer-level load
- Diagnosing issues across request logs and message queues, and making the system more reliable under pressure
- Pinpointing where the AI components fall short and building the tests that raise their quality
- Working with customers to translate real clinical processes into technical requirements
- Writing tooling that takes manual, repetitive work off the team's plate

What we're looking for
- Six or more years building software, with your strength in backend systems or the infrastructure beneath them
- A track record of making architecture decisions, shipping them and running them in production
- Strong Python and TypeScript, ideally some Go, on AWS
- The person teammates come to when something is on fire or a design needs a second set of eyes
- Someone who has genuinely woven AI tooling into how they work, and can bring the rest of a team along. Neither a skeptic nor someone who outsources their thinking to a model.
