Title: Head of People Operations

Location: San Francisco, CA

Salary: $180k - 250k + Bonus + Equity

Schedule: 5 days onsite plus available after hours & weekends when needed


The Opportunity

Our client, a fast-growing top-notch AI startup, is seeking a Head of People Operations to build and scale the operational backbone of its global people function.

This role blends strategic HR leadership with hands-on operational execution. You will design and implement the systems, policies, and infrastructure required to support a high-performance, fast-scaling organization operating across multiple jurisdictions.

Reporting directly to the executive team, you will partner closely with finance, legal, and operations leaders to ensure the company can grow quickly while maintaining rigor, compliance, and an exceptional employee experience.


Key Responsibilities:

People Operations & Infrastructure

  • Own and optimize HR systems, including HRIS, payroll, benefits administration, and people data infrastructure
  • Design and implement scalable people processes that support rapid organizational growth
  • Build operational frameworks that enhance employee experience and organizational effectiveness

Employee Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee onboarding, offboarding, promotions, transfers, and performance management processes
  • Ensure a seamless and consistent employee experience across all stages of employment
  • Partner with leadership on organizational planning and workforce development initiatives

Compliance & Global Workforce Operations

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Partner closely with legal and finance teams on international employment structures, payroll compliance, and immigration matters
  • Manage employment documentation, policies, and internal compliance programs

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain reporting on headcount, retention, attrition, workforce planning, and performance metrics
  • Leverage data to inform strategic people decisions and organizational planning

Employee Relations & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted resource for employee relations matters
  • Partner with leadership teams on performance management, organizational design, and talent planning
  • Support the development of a high-performing and engaged workforce

Benefits Administration

  • Oversee benefits programs and vendor relationships
  • Ensure competitive, scalable benefits offerings that support employee wellbeing


Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of experience in People Operations, Human Resources, or related operational leadership roles within high-growth technology companies
  • Experience supporting global and distributed workforces, including international employee populations
  • Deep understanding of HR operations, employment compliance, and people systems
  • Proven ability to build scalable processes and infrastructure in rapidly changing environments
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience leveraging data to drive decision-making
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive information
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating with significant ownership, autonomy, and accountability


This is an in-person position based in San Francisco and offers the opportunity to help shape the people strategy behind one of the fastest-growing companies!


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $180,000 – $250,000
  • Generous equity grant and annual performance bonus
  • $15,000 relocation bonus (Bay Area)
  • $10,000 housing bonus (within 0.5 miles of office)
