Role Overview:

We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Software Engineer – Scala / Kotlin / OCaml to work on a freelance basis. This expert software engineer will apply deep, hands-on experience in Scala, Kotlin, and/or OCaml to assess complex, real-world technical scenarios and shape the performance of cutting-edge AI systems in specialized engineering domains. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in computer science, fast ramp-up, and high ownership, with a focus on delivering precise, structured written assessments and clear, articulable rationales.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply language expertise to evaluate technical tasks against real-world professional standards, reviewing intricate code-level situations and providing written assessments.

• Work inside containerized repositories (docker), running and interpreting programmatic and CI-style checks to judge whether an engineering environment is sound.

• Provide clear written rationales explaining expert judgments and complete well-defined, time-bounded tasks with explicit evaluation criteria.

• Utilize strong CS fundamentals, fast ramp-up, and high ownership to deliver high-quality work products, with a focus on flexibility across languages.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of AI systems into specialized engineering domains.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in one or more of Scala, Kotlin, and/or OCaml, with a strong foundation in functional/OOP JVM development, distributed systems, and data engineering contexts.

• Expertise in Docker/CI-based repository environments and the ability to read automated checks, or the ability to ramp up on these quickly.

• Strong articulation of not just "what" code does, but also "why" and "how" it achieves specific outcomes.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Strong ownership and accountability for delivering high-quality work products, with a focus on meeting explicit evaluation criteria.
