Job Description

Would you like to join a team working on simulations of the control systems behind the world’s largest two-stroke engines, as well as the cloud platforms that host them?

We are looking for a skilled Java Cloud Engineer with 3-5 years’ experience for our small engineering team within EDED (Tools & HILS). The team is part of a broader cross-competencies organization at Everllence

The position is based in Denmark, and requires on-site presence at least three days per week.

Real engines. Real ships. Your platform trains the people who run them.

Our Cloud-based ECS Simulator is used at PrimeServ Academy to train engineers who operate and service two-stroke marine engines installed on vessels worldwide. It supports both instructor-led courses and self-learning modules - giving engineers hands-on experience with realistic engine control scenarios in a safe, scalable virtual environment.

Behind that experience is a Java portal application and an Azure cloud platform that need a dedicated, skilled engineer to own them.

But this is more than a maintenance role.

The platform holds long-term strategic potential - toward digital twins and controlled pre-verification of OTA software updates before deployment to ships. Getting there requires a stable, well-structured foundation. That is what you will help build.

You will play an important role in:

  • Maintaining, debugging, and developing new features in our Spring Boot / Java 21 training portal
  • Owning and improving our Azure cloud infrastructure (App Service, VMSS, Azure SQL)
  • Maintaining and fine-tuning our established Terraform infrastructure-as-code codebase
  • Contributing to Ubuntu-based VM image creation and automation using Packer
  • Understanding, extending, and improving our Jenkins CI/CD pipelines
  • Driving code quality, structure, and long-term maintainability across the backend
  • Collaborating across a cross-functional team and communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders

This role combines hands-on execution with ownership - you will both make things work today and help shape where they go next.

A day in your new role

You start with a short technical sync over coffee. We speak openly about risks, trade-offs, and technical debt.

You dig into a Spring Boot component, work through a bug, and sketch a cleaner approach for a feature that has been on the backlog too long. After lunch, you refine a Terraform module to improve environment reproducibility and make the next deployment smoother.

Later in the week, you flag a pipeline configuration that works today but will cause problems at scale. That kind of thinking is exactly what we need.

We expect you to take ownership - and we expect you to work hands-on.

We imagine that you have:

Required:

  • The ability to maintain a strong technical overview, guide architectural discussions, and make sound system-level decisions without needing to dive into implementation details
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • 2+ years of professional Java development experience, with hands-on Spring Boot
  • 2+ years of practical Linux (Ubuntu) administration and scripting
  • Solid experience working with cloud infrastructure - Azure knowledge is a strong plus
  • Working knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure-as-code principles
  • A structured, quality-oriented approach to code and systems
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of professional education

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Packer for VM image creation
  • Familiarity with Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline scripting
  • Experience with Azure SQL, App Service, or VMSS
  • Danish language skills

You are motivated by real ownership, not just closing tickets. You care about the long-term quality of what you build – but you are also able to take a pragmatic approach.

Welcome to EDED — Tools & HILS

As part of the ECSDO (Engine Control System DevOps) team in our Tools & HILS department at Everllence, you will contribute to tools, test rigs, and simulation technologies that support our engine control systems. You will be working with colleagues who are passionate about what they do - but never take themselves too seriously.

“There’s always someone to help out - and we use our daily standups as much for tech as for teasing each other.” - Developer in EDED

We value quality, collaboration, and psychological safety, and we are not afraid to mix in fun, creativity, or the occasional burst of confetti. Transparency, openness to feedback, and shared learning are all part of our daily rhythm.

What You Can Expect From Us

At Everllence, you will join a development-oriented team and department where learning is an integrated part of the job.

We offer:

  • A strong focus on both professional and personal development – through good onboarding, mentorship, and continuous feedback.
  • Access to internal and external training courses in software engineering, automation, test design, stakeholder communication, and domain knowledge.
  • Dedicated time for learning and development during working hours.
  • Peer mentoring and support from senior engineers in the department.
  • Opportunities to grow into broader roles – technical expert, domain lead, or architect – depending on your interests.
  • Participation in cross-functional initiatives where you can shape our tools, methods, and technology stack.
