Automation Engineer

Job Summary

Armavel is seeking an Automation Engineer to work at the intersection of automation, data, and emerging AI/ML capabilities to help the Department of Veterans Affairs improve efficiency, reduce risk, and accelerate delivery. This role involves turning complex manual processes into scalable, modern solutions using proven automation techniques and evolving AI-driven approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automation and AI-enabled solutions within a Federal environment.
  • Analyze existing manual processes, SOPs, reports, and data sets to identify automation and intelligent augmentation opportunities.
  • Develop end-to-end automation workflows using tools like Power Automate, Office Scripts, PowerShell, Python, and emerging AI/ML capabilities.
  • Translate customer needs into technical solutions, architectural patterns, and repeatable design standards supporting cybersecurity automation.
  • Support integration, deployment, and lifecycle management of automation solutions across the environment.
  • Evaluate data quality and perform necessary data transformation and cleansing for automated and AI-assisted processes.
  • Act as a technical advisor and collaborator, bridging customer needs with engineering solutions.
  • Experiment with new automation and AI/ML ideas to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in system analysis, data extraction, and integration planning.
  • Hands-on experience automating processes involving Excel, PDFs, and structured/unstructured data.
  • Proficiency with Power Platform, scripting (Python/PowerShell), and automation tools.
  • Strong ability to analyze workflows and design automation strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical ideas.
  • Collaborative mindset and genuine curiosity to learn and improve.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL (table optimization, stored procedures).
  • Experience with IRM/GRC/Audit modules in ServiceNow.
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to automation or data workflows (e.g., NLP, intelligent document processing, anomaly detection).
  • Familiarity with DataBricks.
