Full Stack Engineer (Next.js, Golang, PHP, AWS) in AUSTRALIA

Remote 1 year ago

Ironstar is an Australian owned and operated Drupal hosting provider working with some of the best and brightest Drupal websites in Australia. Our platform has been built from the ground up using a modern tech stack including Kubernetes, AWS, Next.js, Golang, and more. We are the only Australian-government certified Drupal hosting provider.

Due to rapid growth, we’re looking for a mid-to-senior level full stack dev to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development of our full-featured customer management console as well as working on some complex mission-critical customer Next.js apps. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on backend systems using Go and Drupal.

  • Fully remote position from anywhere in Australia (optional co-working in Melbourne)
  • Modern tech stack including Kubernetes and Lambda
  • 9-day fortnight (a 3 day weekend (at least!) every other week)
  • Lots of training and skills development opportunities
  • Flexible hours
  • Half-yearly team off-sites and conference attendance

Applicants must be Australian citizens, as it's a requirement for government security clearance which you'll need to undergo. You must live and work in Australia.

About the job

As a full-stack dev at Ironstar, you’ll work with a wide variety of technologies and be exposed to lots of learning opportunities. Your key focus will be working on our customer management console written in Next.js, and the Golang API that powers it and our entire platform. Experience working with Drupal and PHP will be highly regarded, but isn’t essential.

Want to know more? Here are some real-world examples of the type of stuff you would be working on:

  • Design and develop new functionality in our management console such as security settings, config management, onboarding workflows, and more.
  • Support and scale a mission-critical Next.js Lambda application handling up to 5,000 requests per second.
  • Ensure our software is developed to the highest standards and in compliance with the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) and ISO 27001 and 28001 certifications
  • Create observability platforms that integrate our API and Console with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and New Relic.
  • Integrate our platform with external CDN and WAF solution providers

About you

We believe that attitude beats experience, but at a minimum you need to have:

  • 5+ years experience with Next.js, Typescript, and front-end development
  • Demonstrable back-end experience with PHP, Python, Golang, or similar
  • Experience working in customer-facing roles with good communication skills
  • A proven ability to help customers solve real problems

Experience working with Drupal is highly regarded, and for a willing team members we’ll provide some dedicated time to work on contribution back to the project.

We're also very interested in hearing from candidates who have experience with any of the following:

  • AWS experience including Lambda, ECS, and API Gateway
  • CI/CD experience using GitHub Actions, GitLab, etc
  • Working on secure platforms under ISO 27001, ISM, etc

About us

Our mission is to offer a highly capable and secure hosting platform for Drupal websites. This allows our partners to reach out to bigger clients and for this open source project we love (Drupal) to continue to grow and expand.

We know we're nothing without our team, and in this role, we'll be working with you to develop your skill set and capabilities over time and will invest with you in your training and certification.

We are an equal opportunity employer and genuinely value diversity in our team. We warmly encourage applications from people from different backgrounds and needs. Because of security regulations we need to comply with, we can only accept applications from Australian citizens living and working in Australia.

We are also Australia's first and only government-certified Drupal hosting provider (under the Hosting Certification Framework), and we're getting ready to expand our offering to new countries in the near future.

Salary and benefits

We're a friendly team focused on providing a healthy work/life balance for all of our team members, and as such there's a lot of flexibility in where and when you work.

  • 9 day fortnight (a 5 day week followed by a 4 day week, not 9 days straight!)
  • A competitive salary of up to $150,000/year plus super
  • Twice-yearly team retreats where we decide on strategy and brainstorm solutions to big problems
  • Fully remote although you have to live in Australia

We are flexible, and believe that good work is measured by what we produce, not by sitting at a desk from 9 to 5. We offer flexible hours wherever possible. If you need to duck out early to pick up kids, or run a family member to the doctors, or just like to start early and finish early, we'll do our best to accommodate you.

To be considered, your application must include a cover letter explaining why you think you fit the role. Don't spend more than 10 minutes on it, but please do give us some bullet points. It helps us know that you read the whole ad and are serious about the position :)
