Mercor and JobHub by NeonLabs are partnering with a leading AI research group to bring on Backend Engineering Specialists for a high-impact initiative advancing how large language models (LLMs) learn to code, reason, and solve complex programming challenges.

This role is ideal for experienced software engineers who want to apply their backend development expertise to cutting-edge AI research — shaping how models understand, generate, and optimize code across multiple programming languages. Work full-time, remotely, and directly with the teams defining the next era of intelligent systems.

💼 What You’ll Do

• Curate code examples, refine solutions, and correct outputs across languages such as Python, JavaScript (ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go

• Evaluate AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability

• Design, implement, and test APIs, databases, and backend systems that set the standard for model understanding

• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to benchmark AI-driven coding performance

• Contribute to the development of coding datasets, annotation tools, and benchmarking workflows

📊 Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience

• Proficiency in Python and Node.js

• Deep experience building RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints

• Expertise with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis

• Strong understanding of database optimization, indexing, and query performance

• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and data security principles

• Familiarity with asynchronous processing and background job systems

• Experience using testing frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end validation

💡 Preferred

• Detail-oriented problem solver with strong logical reasoning

• Experience with Docker and containerized deployment

• Familiarity with TypeScript or React for effective cross-functional collaboration

💰 Details

• Pay: $90K–$200K/year (USD), based on experience and location

• Type: Full-time employment or contractor (varies by region)

• Schedule: 9:00am–5:30pm PST for initial two weeks, then aligned with your timezone

• Location: Remote or Onsite (Palo Alto, CA)

• U.S. Applicants: Must reside outside Wyoming and Illinois
