About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Compliance to join our leadership team and help us build a world-class, compliant financial ecosystem for creators.

You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing all compliance and risk management frameworks within our fintech operation. This includes ensuring regulatory adherence across markets, guiding product and operations on compliant scaling, and working closely with our executive team and regulators.

The ideal candidate combines deep regulatory knowledge (E-Money, Payments, AML, KYC) with a pragmatic, startup-minded approach - someone who can build processes that protect the company without slowing innovation.

You’ll report directly to the COO and work closely with our CEO and Legal team.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Risk Oversight

• Expand and lead MAKE’s global compliance framework, ensuring adherence to all applicable financial, payments, and data regulations.
• Act as the Compliance Officer / MLRO for the company and main point of contact with regulatory bodies.
• Establish and maintain AML/CTF programs, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring practices.
• Ensure compliance with PSD2, GDPR, E-Money, and other EU fintech regulations.
• Partner with Product and Operations to embed compliance into product design and customer onboarding.
• Manage internal audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Governance & Policy

• Define internal policies and procedures to ensure operational and regulatory integrity.
• Provide compliance training and guidance to cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, Support, Operations).
• Monitor and report on compliance performance to executive leadership and the board.
• Ensure accurate and timely regulatory filings and reporting.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Work closely with external partners - regulators, auditors, legal advisors, and financial institutions.
• Support cross-functional initiatives that balance compliance with business growth and customer experience.
• Advise leadership on regulatory developments, potential risks, and strategic mitigation plans.
• Continue to Build the Compliance Team

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Compliance, Risk, or Regulatory roles within Fintech, Banking, or Payments.
• Strong working knowledge of EU financial regulations (E-Money, PSD2, AMLD5/6, GDPR).
• Previous experience as MLRO, Compliance Officer, or Senior Compliance Lead in a licensed financial institution or EMI.
• Proven track record building or scaling compliance frameworks in a fast-moving, international startup environment.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
• Fluency in English (Spanish a plus).

Nice to Have

• Experience with B2C fintech products, challenger banks, or neo-banks.
• Prior involvement with licensing applications or passporting processes.
• Experience with SumSub or similar identity verification service.
• Understanding of the creator economy, digital payments, and platform monetization models.
