About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer specializing in Desktop Integration to join our remote team in the United States. In this role, you will contribute to enhancing the Firefox experience across multiple desktop platforms, including Windows, Linux, and macOS. You will play a pivotal role in developing and shipping new features, improving OS integrations, and creating tools that facilitate large-scale deployments. As a technical leader, you will support cross-team collaboration, provide guidance on complex systems programming, and help optimize the quality and security of Firefox for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of web browsing technology while working in an open, distributed, and innovative environment.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with systems programming on major desktop platforms (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
  • Proficiency in development on Windows and/or macOS, with a focus on low-level Win32 or Cocoa API coding
  • Strong knowledge of C/C++ and familiarity with Rust programming language
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working effectively within distributed teams
  • Pragmatic approach to project management, including balancing trade-offs and safeguards during implementation
  • Experience collaborating with product managers, project managers, and cross-functional teams
  • Prior experience developing cross-platform desktop applications, especially with low-level systems programming
  • Contributions to open-source projects are highly valued

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver new Firefox features focusing on installations, updates, and OS integrations
  • Enhance the security and ease of use of Firefox in large enterprise deployments by creating and improving administrative tools
  • Assess work priorities aligned with the product roadmap and provide insightful recommendations to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with expert engineers to deepen understanding of Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms
  • Identify and fix software defects, ensuring a high-quality experience for a global user base
  • Work effectively within a geographically distributed development team, maintaining clear communication and collaboration
