Position Summary
The Associate Network Engineer is responsible for learning to implement and maintain an organization's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks. They work collaboratively with other Business Technology professionals to ensure that the network is secure, reliable, and efficient, and they proactively identify and attempt to resolve network issues under the supervision of Network Engineers. This role also acts as a support point of contact for Network related issues. The Associate Network Engineer also manages and maintains network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other security technologies under the direction of Network Engineers.
In addition to their technical responsibilities, the Associate Network Engineer works closely with other Business Technology professionals, including other SREs, Developers, Tech Support Samurai, Application Support Ninjas, and security specialists, to learn how to ensure that the network infrastructure is integrated with other Business Technology systems and services. This position includes regular travel to remote sites throughout the US so you must be willing and able to travel.
Job Responsibilities/Essential Duties
- Learn to Install, configure, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks, and maintain appropriate network monitoring tools
- Maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, inventory, and change management procedures
- Monitor network performance, identify and resolve network issues, and proactively address potential problems
- Learn to plan and execute network upgrades and enhancements, including hardware and software upgrades
- Learn to manage and maintain network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other security technologies
- Work collaboratively with other BT professionals, including site reliability engineers, software developers, and security specialists, to ensure that network infrastructure is integrated with other BT systems and services
- Coordinate with vendors and providers to support Network projects and services.
- Be willing and able to travel to Power facilities through the US.
- Participates in Kanban/Scrum ceremonies scheduled by the team.
- Clearly communicates schedule and planned vacations to the SRE team and BT Leadership in advance.
- Performs other tasks, as assigned by BT Leadership.
- Must be able to sit at a desk and type for 8 hours a day.

Education And Experience
- 1+ years working with network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP, and VPN. They should also have knowledge of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points.
- Should have knowledge of network planning, design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Relevant industry certifications, such as CCNP or CCIE, are highly desirable.
