About the role


The position is at a fintech company. We are looking for a Head of People to head a world-class People department, acting as both a strategic partner and hands-on operator. You will define our culture, design the organization for speed and clarity, and implement lightweight tools that enable senior leaders to excel in a global, remote-first environment.


Responsibilities


  • People strategy aligned with company objectives: Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, COO, and functional leaders.
  • Organizational design and workforce planning: Define roles, structure, and career frameworks for a highly technical team.
  • Performance & development: Foster a feedback-driven culture and establish a practical performance rhythm (calibration, promotions, growth) without excessive process.
  • Manager & leadership support: Coach leaders, elevate managerial effectiveness, and build scalable, easy-to-use toolkits.
  • Talent & recruiting collaboration: Work with leadership and external recruiters on headcount planning, employer branding, and successful hiring outcomes.
  • Retention & compensation: Develop a transparent compensation philosophy, pay bands, benchmarks, and refresh cycles; proactively track engagement and satisfaction.
  • People Operations systems: Oversee and enhance payroll, benefits, leave, and HRIS with Finance, ensuring compliance across regions.
  • Policies & employee relations: Maintain policies and the employee handbook; manage sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Onboarding & offboarding: Deliver a seamless, impactful experience that clarifies expectations and accelerates integration.
  • Culture & rituals: Lead company-wide events and gatherings (2–4×/year) that build trust and connection in a remote-first, async-friendly environment.
  • Cross-functional alignment: Collaborate closely across teams, leading major cross-functional initiatives such as M&A diligence and integration.


Qualifications


  • 8–10+ years in People leadership roles, directly partnering with senior executives; experience supporting engineering and product teams in high-growth settings.
  • Proven success in designing scalable, efficient performance and development frameworks.
  • Sound judgment in handling employee relations and confidential matters.
  • Experience developing compensation philosophies and managing compensation cycles.
  • Strong operational expertise overseeing onboarding, payroll, benefits, leave, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions, preferably using modern tools (e.g., Rippling, Remote, Carta).
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills; effective in a fast-paced, distributed team environment.

Pay: $180k to $250k annually.
