As Unix Systems Specialist (Solaris) you will play a pivotal role in managing Solaris based IT Systems and storage. You will lead the development, management and support of UKAEA's Solaris Operating System installations, providing expert level design, management and support for day to day operation. You will be working closely with Scientists, Diagnosticians and Software developers on operational control, diagnostics, data warehousing and backup systems. Additional Responsibilities : Guide the setup and proactive management of high-availability Solaris storage clusters. Oversee planning, deployment, and management of on-site authentication and Endpoint management servers. Collaborate with users to align system services with their needs. Monitoring Solaris systems for potential issues and to ensure compliance with industry standards. Support colleagues running key services such as Email services, Database services and in-house developed applications. Qualifications Essential Requirements: Strong expertise in Solaris Operating Systems, including Solaris 10 and Solaris 11, with extensive knowledge of Solaris zones, deployment, and management along with experience with Solaris jumpstart and Network Information Service (NIS). Proficiency in managing Oracle ZS appliances, ZFS and ZFS snapshots, along with experience with Solaris jumpstart and Network Information Service (NIS). Advanced skills in configuring and managing NFS servers and clients & asolid understanding of email delivery processes. Ability to write well-documented code in high-level languages or scripts such as C, C++, Bash, awk, or Python. A solid demonstrable knowledge of DNS. Demonstrated experience in software engineering processes and best practices, combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills Desirable: Experience in managing Linux Systems. Proficiency in preparing technical documentation for users and working experience with Fortran, Java. Familiarity with MIMER database is advantageous, as would be a broad skill set in database management and SQL.
