Role Description

This is a part-time, contract role for a Backend Lead / Technical Project Manager. The role is remote and aimed at candidates located on the West Coast of Canada. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing backend development processes, managing technical projects, and leading a team of developers. Day-to-day tasks include project planning, resource allocation, performance monitoring, and ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.

Compensation: $60/hour

Engagement: Contract (Per Project Retainer)

Workload: ~10–20 hours per week (example: Project A = 10 hrs/week = $2,625 CAD/month)

Location: Fully remote (West Coast Canada preferred)

Overview

We’re looking for a Backend Lead / Technical Project Manager who can both manage backend developers and projects while contributing directly to the codebase. You’ll oversee multiple ongoing SaaS projects, ensuring technical quality, timely delivery, and smooth coordination between development and leadership teams.

Required Qualifications

• Team Leadership and Communication skills
• Project Management and Program Management skills
• Strong Analytical Skills
• 7+ years of experience as a software developer building scalable APIs.
• Strong expertise in PHP and Laravel (or similar frameworks).
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational database design.
• Experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, SQS, S3, CloudFront).
• Hands-on experience with Docker for local and production environments.
• Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a small distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Serverless Framework and AWS Lambda.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (especially GitHub Actions).
• Experience with Azure cloud environments.
• Comfortable working in agile, fast-paced setups with multiple concurrent projects.
