Job Title: Gameplay Programmer (Contract)

Job Type: Full-Time, Revenue Share Contract

Location: Fully Remote, US Time Zones 

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Gameplay Programmer to join our team on a full-time contract basis. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and polishing the core gameplay systems that define the player experience. You will work closely with designers and artists to transform ideas into tangible, fun, and engaging mechanics. This is a hands-on role that requires a deep technical understanding of Unreal Engine and a passion for building great games.

Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and implement core gameplay systems and player-facing features using Unreal Engine 5.5 and C++.
  • Collaborate with the design team to create and refine game mechanics, character controls, camera systems, and other interactive elements.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while adhering to established coding standards.
  • Optimize and debug gameplay systems to ensure high performance and stability across target platforms.
  • Actively participate in regular team playtesting sessions, providing insightful feedback and identifying bugs and areas for improvement.
  • Work within and extend the Unreal Engine Lyra Framework to build robust and scalable systems.
  • Maintain clear and thorough documentation for all created systems and features.
Preferred Skills
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional game development experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Expert proficiency in C++ and a strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Deep understanding of core game development concepts, including game loops, state machines, state trees, 3D math, physics, and character animation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined, with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time schedule and participate regularly in playtesting.
Bonus Skills
  • Demonstrable experience with the Unreal Engine Lyra Framework.
  • Hands-on experience with FMOD implementation and audio programming.
  • Familiarity with multiplayer networking and replication in Unreal Engine.
  • Experience with source control systems such as Unity Version Control(formerly Plastic).
  • A love for indie games and contributing to a small, agile team.
Contract Details
  • Compensation: This is a revenue-share contract. This position is for a motivated individual who wants to be a key part of our journey to Early Access and share in the project's success.
  • Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Flexibility: As a fully remote team, we offer flexible working hours. You will need to be available to work with a team based in US time zones.
