Job Summary

The Department of Athletics at CU Boulder encourages applications for the Assistant Director, Marketing & Promotion! This position is responsible for Marketing and Fan Experience initiatives that promote and increase ticket sales for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, and other select Olympic sports. The Assistant Director will also have oversight of the Athletics Marketing student intern program, serving as a lead for on-campus student engagement and serve as liaison to the student section representatives with a focus on increased student engagement and attendance across all sports. Emphasis on increasing revenue and attendance as well as providing memorable experiences for fans in attendance at CU events and creating a home field advantage for student-athletes. Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan to increase revenue, ticket sales, attendance for assigned sports. Serve as lead for campus engagement. Assist in the implementation of all football game day activities and promotions. Communicate and interact effectively and respectfully with diverse populations in the department, the University and the community.

This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. Marketing

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Create and implement marketing plans and ticket promotions for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, and other select Olympic sports to increase ticket sales, game attendance, and fan experience.

  • Craft promotional messaging for upcoming game or event by working with graphic design team on assets for digital (website, social, and emails) and traditional (print, TV, radio, promotional campaigns), and non-traditional advertising, and videoboard graphics for gameday.
  • Work with coaching or team staff and the Graphic Designers on photo shoots for assigned sports.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement strategies designed to increase attendance, ticket sales, and enhance gameday atmosphere for assigned sports.
  • Collaborate with the ticket sales team on theme and promotional nights for specific sports, so they can assist in soliciting and cultivating groups to support promotion.
  • Work closely with the social team on pushing out creative content to promote upcoming games and help increase engagement on social.
  • Assist in execution, scheduling, creative development, and relationship management of assigned advertising avenues.
  • Maintain email communication with Student Sports Pass Holders.

Game Day Presentation

Manage the gameday operations and in-game entertainment, which includes but is not limited to creating promotions, producing the game script, and coordinating the in-game presentation for assigned sports. Lead the supervision of student intern game day assignments.

  • Assist the Director of Marketing and marketing staff with the planning, coordination, and implementation of all football game day activities and promotions, including but not limited to:
  • Buff Vision.
  • In-game promotions and giveaways.
  • In-venue presentations sponsored by the University and/or the Athletics Department.
  • All other game day-related activities.
  • Oversee game entertainment for women’s basketball and select sports, bringing new and fresh elements to customer relations and the in-game fan experience.
  • Identify creative and innovative programs that engage both existing and potential fans, resulting in an entertaining atmosphere that encourages spectator loyalty and support.
  • Write copy and coordinate scripts for in-game and videos for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, and select Olympic sports.
  • Develops programming to include videoboard content, pyrotechnics and special effects, on-field/court recognition, halftime shows, sponsor activation, in-game promotions, fan contests, and other entertainment elements for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, and select Olympic sports.
  • Game Producer- plans and delivers game scripts for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, and select Olympic sports, which includes but is not limited to communicating the game information and performance cues for Band, Cheer and Dance, Mascots, PA Announcer, DJ, Interns, Buff Vision, and Audio team.

Promotions And Fan Engagement

Work with assigned sport coaches on promotional concepts and collaborate with the sports information office, ticket office, Buff Club, Buff Vision, and multi-media rights' holder to coordinate and implement successful social, in-game promotions, halftime activities, ticket sales efforts, and fan engagement.

  • Work with the marketing rights holder on fulfillment of game sponsorship and implementation of sponsored promotions.
  • Create programs designed to increase sales of the CU Sports Pass and student attendance.
  • Work with the designated marketing contact on specific student promotions and take the lead for on-campus engagement.
  • Assist with The Charge (Student Group) for all ticketed sports and collaborate with the leadership team on policies, ticket sales, on-campus marketing and advertising, game atmosphere, special events, research, and communication strategies.
  • Further enhance and cultivate relationships on campus, resulting in student, faculty, and staff support.
  • Creating new promotional activities to increase attendance at home events and supporting marketing and promotions functions for all sports.

Administrative

  • Oversee the student internship programs with the Director of Marketing - hiring, training, and scheduling for gameday.
  • Assist with sponsorship fulfillment responsibilities related to Buffalo Sports Properties (Learfield Property) and other third-party agreements.
  • Assist with ticket sales campaign coordination related to IMG/Learfield Ticket Solutions and other third-party agreements for all sports.
  • Maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Know, understand, and reinforce commitment to NCAA and Big 12 rules, and report violations or suspected violations to the Athletics Compliance Department.

  • Starting salary is $70,900. Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Marketing/Administration or applicable field. Three years experience managing game presentation duties including creating game day scripts & directing in-game entertainment.
  • In addition to regular office hours, available to work athletic events.
  • Will require hours on the weekend and after 5 pm based on game and events schedule.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, initiative and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Three to five years collegiate or professional sports promotional/marketing experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing promotional activities and events.
  • Experience in fulfillment of corporate sponsorships.
  • Experience in creating, preparing and tracking advertising.
  • Computer skills including experience in desktop publishing (PageMaker, Photoshop, etc.).
