Mine Technician
Position Description
The Mine Technician provides technical support to the Underground Technical Services team by conducting boretracking activities, assisting survey and ventilation functions, and supporting ground control testing when needed. Working primarily underground, this role ensures the accurate collection, verification, and reporting of technical data critical to safe and efficient mine operations. The incumbent will work closely with the Mine Surveyor, Geotechnical Engineer, and Ventilation Technician to maintain the accuracy and integrity of mine data and ensure compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct boretracking activities for all production holes in stopes, ensuring accuracy of data and timely submission of reports to the Engineering and Operations teams.
- Compile and issue boretracking reports with detailed analysis of hole deviations and alignment to planned designs.
- When time permits, assist the Geotechnical team with pull testing and other underground inspections to verify ground support quality and installation practices.
- Support the Ventilation Technician by performing underground ventilation readings and checks as required to maintain adequate coverage during absences or peak workloads.
- Assist the Survey Team by participating in check surveys, data validation, and layout activities to ensure accuracy of mine development and production data.
- Maintain and calibrate all assigned technical instruments and ensure proper storage, transport, and documentation of survey and boretracking equipment.
- Adhere to all safety and environmental policies, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, site standards, and mine procedures.
- Support the Technical Services team in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing ideas for efficiency, data quality, and workflow optimization.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Technical Services and mine operations.
Qualifications
- Mining Engineering Technician Diploma or equivalent technical training preferred.
- Previous experience in an underground mining environment required. Experience as an underground surveyor preferred.
- Knowledge and practical experience with boretracking equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with underground survey procedures and instruments (total station, prism, and laser scanning) required.
- Understanding of ground support systems and geotechnical testing methods preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and record-keeping.
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical drawings and plans.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and basic data entry software.
- Ability to work independently underground with minimal supervision.
- Physically capable of performing underground fieldwork, including walking steep grades and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a focus on safety and collaboration.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence required; ability to operate manual transmission is considered an asset
This is a residential position, requiring relocation or residence in the local community, on a 4 days on / 3 days off schedule with 10-hour shifts.
